I was thinking the same thing - think of the hvwt matchups - Velasquez, Lesnar, Kerr, Coleman, Couture, Erickson, Angle, Schultz etc etc

There were similar programs and attempts.
One thing that has changed is that by wrestlers participating in the early days of MMA / NHB is that wrestling is more popular. BJJ also helped make grappling and school boy and girl wrestling more popular.
