And he had to hold the rope so Lindland didn’t pancake him..

I don’t see it that way.
Fedor was baiting him, and it’s not like Arlovski was landing anything significant.
That fight was always going to end with Fedor finishing Arlovski, flying knee attempt or not.
Lindland could have gotten the takedown.
Then what?
Fedor still finishes him.
They could start the fight in almost any position Lindland wanted and Fedor still wins.
Agreed.
