UFC lightweight champion, Ilia Topuria, will be heading to the Court of Violence against Women on Jan 7. in Mostoles, Spain, following a criminal complaint filed by his estranged wife, Giorgina Uzcategui Badell.

That’s according to a report from El Mundo.

Badell accused Topuria of “domestic and gender violence” as well as “injuries and family abuse” following their separation late last year. “El Matador” has since released a public statement, claiming the “false” allegations were an attempt at “extortion.”

The ordeal has forced Topuria into a leave of absence, paving the way for an interim lightweight title.

Next week’s court appearance will not address Badell’s accusations but instead deal with the custody of their daughter, who currently resides with Badell and Badell’s grandmother. The court is expected to rule in favor of “the best interests of the minor.”

In addition, UFC color commentator, Joe Rogan, was named in the complaint against Topuria after the “Experience” podcaster shared a doctored image of Badell, calling her a “monster” who was “trying to steal his soul.”

Badell was already buried under an avalanche of online abuse from crazed fight fans.

”She has all the evidence in her favor,” sources told El Mundo. “She was the one who took the initiative to divorce [and] as soon as the truth is known, everything that Giorgina has happened with him will be known.”

Topuria, who has a son from a previous relationship, married Badell in 2024.

Apparently… Rogan was reacting to a fake AI image of the ex-wife with a rapper after her divorce:

“She’s taking photos with rappers and sh*t, putting it on Instagram. You know how they do it: they try to steal your soul. Hell has no fury like a woman scorned. This is the mother of your children, and this lady is a monster, and she is trying to get custody. I don’t know if it’s psychologically duped, or not. If it is, then once she is not on your side, then it’s just burn the house down.”

The photo was an edited picture of what was a picture of her with her brother.

I saw that and to me it seemed like Joe was speaking in general terms about jealous ladies when the husband gets the spotlight

“I have always felt deeply grateful for the respectful treatment I have received from the media, who have been — and continue to be — an important part of my journey throughout all these years.

“Unfortunately, and very much to my regret, I am currently in the news for matters that have nothing to do with sports.

“I understand that being a public figure means being exposed to fake news and misleading, sensationalist headlines designed solely to generate clicks, without regard for the truth or the consequences.

“Yesterday, a media outlet published a story with a false headline claiming that I had been summoned to testify in a domestic violence case. That headline later had to be changed because it was not true. I have never been summoned to testify for that reason, although I will of course do so willingly if ever required. The fact is that, due to how the judicial system works, I am required to go to that court, but the summons is solely related to a family and administrative matter concerning my daughter’s travel outside of Spain, whom I have been unable to see for four months despite numerous attempts.

“I accept the cost of public exposure, but that does not justify the spread of unverified false information, the distortion of facts, or the disclosure of matters involving a minor who deserves protection. The situation began with a divorce petition filed by me, following weeks of negotiations after our separation. After I refused to accept certain completely unreasonable financial demands, a complaint alleging abuse was filed weeks later — something I had previously been threatened with and which is now being reviewed by the courts.

“I continue to place my trust in God, in justice, and in people. I know the truth will prevail, and that I will soon be able to recover one of the two most important things in my life, alongside my son Hugo: my daughter, Giorgina.

“All I ask of the media is the same respect and rigor that most of them have always shown me and that they stick to the facts, because the truth follows only one path.

“God bless you.”

Topuria has been on an incredible run in the UFC, specifically, his past three fights. “El Matador” became the UFC featherweight champion with a brutal knockout of Alexander Volkanovski at UFC 298 in February 2024. Eight months later, Topuria became the first fighter to ever stop Max Holloway with strikes at UFC 307 to retain the title — in what would be his lone title defense.

Yeah but muh mental trauma, your honor - $5 million please

Wait a second…

Spain has an entire court dedicated to violence against women?

Always a female jury, too.

Jk about that but it wouldn’t surprise me in that setting

I heard that bit in a Youtube short, and yeah, he feel for it hook and sinker. I mean, I did too ha ha, but reading comments it was quickly debunked. He must have a team to do this screening for him, no? Even so, how would a Spain court have a say on a US podcast?
