Should Alex Pereira Move Down?

He looked way too slow at HW. Should he move back down 205 or work on his game to adapt more to the HW?

  • Yes, move down to 205
  • No, stay and work on his game

Even if his power carried over, which we haven’t seen yet, his chin did not. At best he’ll be like 2014+ Overeem

Yes! Silly bastard should not had even moved up!!

He has a power advantage as well as being huge at 205!

At HW he is slow.

Should he go to 205 or 185?

I doubt he can make 185 now, he put on massive weight.

He should have been 230. I feel like this gets overlooked by fighters and coaches alike, being heavier will let you generate more power when in sparring set up when you’re not swinging for the fences, which becomes the thought process “he hits harder”.

However, the speed and timing is lost, and that’s a lot more important past a certain point anyway when it comes to landing clean shots that KO somebody vs having to get through gloves or get a KO from a weird angle.

Zero chance dropping back down that far goes well. Look at how he was KO’d badly by a skinny Nigerian he had beaten down 3 times already, vs getting hit by a 257 juiced to the gills kickboxer and then 25 elbows dropped directly on the back of the head plus a bunch of other punches and he was still following Gane after Herb the worst ref in the business stopped it.

If he tried to cut back to 185 now, he would get KO’d by Royce Gracie

I would like to see him try one more at HW against a top 5-10 opponent first, but he needs to weigh 230-240 next time. I think there’s more than a few HW’s he can beat, but if he loses the next one, then yeah either retire or go back to 205. He cannot be gunshy next time no matter who he fights. We got the Ank 1 version when he needed to be the Ank 2 version. His consistency may be an issue now due to his age.

He’s too old to work on his game and get drastically better. So yes move back down to LHW. Try to win the belt again then retire off into the sunset

He can stay at HW, it’s not as it’s stacked but how about not coming in at 251 fucking pounds? I knew he was screwed as soon as that came to light.

The arrogance of that alone he deserved to get blasted out of there, illegal shots or not. 220-230 max and he’d do well.

I think he should still be able to beat Ulberg if he goes down and fights him this year.

If he hangs around too long at this point things are probably going to get sad. 3 more fights max over the next year and then call it a day imo. No need to see him become a stepping stone.

I doubt anyone at 170 would have a chance, seems like a solid plan

Let’s see him fight the Black Beast.

That’s a lot of weight to lose in not a lot of time. Would be interesting.

That might be fun as long as BB doesn’t gas in 1 round!

Nah. Let him try at least one more time at HW. Not cutting weight must be FUNNN! Getting KOed not so much ha ha.

Again, fairweather MMA fans jump off the wagon after one loss. At least few mention he is overrated (I’ve seen it a lot, but not on the OG though).

Dude was moving like he had cement blocks on his feet

Probably doesn’t want to cut back down to 205, but he’s not going to be a heavyweight cha…well, the division kind of sucks so who knows actually.
