Personally I feel champs should be stripped of their title if they dont defend it in a year, even if they are injured. I can see if a fight is scheduled and the opponent pulls out.
When the former champ is better he can have one tune up fight if he wants then get his title shot.

I agree if it is their fault. They shouldn’t be punished for other fighters pulling out etc. Maybe they should get deranked just knocked down depending on how long they have been inactive

If a dominant champ gets stripped for whatever reason, the next guy that gets the belt is still going to be looked at as an interim type anyway
Sure, but it makes a mockery out of the division if somebody the champ beat, wins the belt without ever beating the last guy to hold it. At that point, somebody is champ, but clearly not best in the division. It’s like fighting to be fake champ.

Maybe after a certain number of defenses, more leeway is given.
It would have been anticlimactic if Anderson Silva had defended his title 7 times but then had to vacate because he couldn’t meet the 12 month deadline due to injury.

Cain jammed up the division for too long. Unfair for the rest of the division. Strip these guys. Maybe pay the stripped fighters the Ppv points they would have gotten if they were champ
