Liu cited assumptions about Kanjutha’s muscular build and masculine appearance as the reason.
The Thailand Mixed Martial Arts Association (TAMMA) backed Kanjutha up with an official statement confirming her gender at birth, demanded an apology from the Chinese MMA Federation and called for sanctions from the International Mixed Martial Arts Federation (IMMAF).
Kanjutha was awarded the gold medal by default. Despite the controversy, she has qualified for the 2026 Asian Games in Japan.
