I watched Goodfellas for the first time just 3 weeks ago or so. And I thought it was good but not a movie I’d ever watch again

The godfather is a better film, but it’s a literal fairytale that makes monsters look like misunderstood anti-heroes vs the actual psychopathic scumbags that made up the mob that was featured in Goodfellas.
The two films really have nothing to do with one another past first glance.

The real life stories are actually more compelling imo and considerably more dark. Scorsese had to make them better people in films to appeal to a wide audience.
The original opening scene in goodfellas had Pesci stabbing batts in the trunk for like 12 seconds straight but it was wayyy too much for the general public audience so it was cut down to 3-4.

Back in the day they were considered heroes indeed. Specially Al Capone. He was viewed as a hero by his community while the Government was the bad guy for banning booze

I would say that Goodfellas is a more fun, rewatchable film, and if it is ever on you end up watching loads of it. But The Godfather is the better film, possibly one of THE best book adaptations ever put to screen. Probably cause Puzo is a co-writer. The time period, the score, the cast is insane. Brando, Caan, Pacino, Duvall, Cazale, Keaton. I love both films but the only right answer to the poll is The Godfather.

Goodfellas is a movie that when it comes on, I’ll start watching it no matter where it’s at.
Can’t say the same for the Godfather. It’s got slower pacing and the shit where Michael is in Italy is kind of boring.

2 is pretty good too…its basically 2 A+ movies
they are completely different movies about the mafia topic
the guys in Goodfellas are not even capos, they are low ranked soldiers that never even got “made”.
The Godfather is a capo, and his sons too by blood.
Like I said, yeah they are mafia movies but completely different based on the power structure.
