The High End Watch Thread

Watch forums are high on the Sinn, how do you like it? I’m real close to grabbing a Marathon, just because why the fuck not?

Or a “grey side of the moon” version. Too damn many variations!!

Gorgeous patina and lovely creamy lume.

Got bored with the titanium bracelet and decided to try the Zulu Time on a plain grey nato. Damn I love this.

Love the watch. Problem is, since I bought the Seamaster, all my other watches have been seriously neglected. Love the look of the Marathons and they have a great rep as a rugged watch.

I had both Omega and Panerai. I prefer Panerai. Even the bigger 47mm don’t look or feel that big when wearing. Simple but classy design.

Yeah I love the watch, you should get one. I’m a sucker for natos, so I have a bunch of them that I rotate the watch on.

Hey guys, I’m new to watches and I don’t want to offend anyone, but does omega really belong on a “high end watch” thread? Genuinely curious

So they are not. Thanks for the response

“High end” is subjective. One person’s “high-end” is another’s “front pocket money”.

That being said, Omega is doing what they can now to artificially create the illusion of demand and exclusivity by limiting production. When I bought my “Bond” Seamaster in the late 90’s, it cost me about 2 grand brand new from a retailer. Back then it was still about half of what a new Rolex Sub would run.

All that to say that, if you’re in the rate air of folks who spend high 5 figures, and even six figures, and up on a watch, most Swatch Group offerings are most certainly what you’d consider “high end”. However, if you are a Citizen/Timex/Casio bro and you don’t usually spend more than a hundo on a watch, a $5-6k Omega would be considered “high end”.

Like I said, subjective.

See, something about the uniqueness of the design, and the fact that, at least where I tend to travel, you rarely see Panerai, but do see quite a few Omega and Rolex watches, also appeals to me.

This is a unique and “one-off” situation I’m commemorating and might even engrave it, so in time I may still get a nice Omega, or Oris, or maybe Grand Seiko.

But I want this one to be unique and special

That’s my Pam Collection right now. All handwinders. Might add a smaller 42 or 44 one.
They are fantastic to wear and high quality made. Have one or 5-6 years, zero issues.

Funny thing is, there are some who absolutely don’t consider Omega/Swatch Group “high end” because a lot of their offerings aren’t by most metrics. And they remember the absolute glut of Omega watches from the 80’s, 90’s, and early 2000’s. It wasn’t until Omega started limiting production runs and raising the price(s) that their name caché started rising again.

Not a fan of the crown guard I see.

I wouldn’t say it’s just limiting production. In the early 2000s they made a conscious decision to massively raise their standards and target that higher end.
I have an early 90s SMP and a modern one (the NTTD model) and they may as well be from different companies.
