I worked with a dude that was pretty chill. He would always talk about how the only thing he did for 20+ years was drive a forklift as a supply guy. But it turned out he was in Italy the majority of the time and spoke Italian (among other languages) and once he got out he got a job doing liaison shit for Italian companies doing American trade shows and had a hot Italian wife and shit.
I know that’s not like, an amazing ending or anything but it always caught me off guard this goofy motherfucker with no front teeth was some international playboy speaking love languages and living in a million+ dollar house 10 years ago.
I don’t know shit about the military but I watched the whole video in the OP the other day and it seems pretty damning to me. TK absolutely comes across as a BS artist to me
It’s fun watching the evolution of celebrity soldiers. The market became too crowded for everyone to get the attention they crave by telling war stories so now they’re turning on each other and starting drama like the old hens on The View.
Watching the end of the Valhalla video, Tim apparently went to Ukraine (the safe part), dug a hole, poured dirt on himself and then filmed himself “in the trenches of Ukraine”.
I’m sure opinions vary between men. My father was a 20 year Army vet who was stationed in Korea, Greece twice, and Panama. He also did a tour of Vietnam. He refused to talk much about any of it, and he hated all the celebrity soldiers. He always said it was a job, you did your job, and you shut up about it.
Yeah, my buddy says the same thing. He says the ones who never saw combat are the ones who get angry. I’m not sure how much combat he saw, but he was deployed twice IIRC. At the same time I’m not gonna judge people who are in the service and criticizing others for exaggerating, especially considering I never served. I have a lot of respect for service men and women. But I think people who never served should pretty much shut up about it.
My dad was injured during Nam but it was in San Diego fighting a fire. It was after his injury free deployment driving marines upriver. An unspent .50 caliber shell exploded in the fire and the primer hit him right under the larynx and lodged a couple millimeters from his jugular. I was that far away from being unborned. However, he does have his uncle’s Purple Heart, who was in the magazine that blew off half the USS New Orleans. When my dad got back home to Texas my grandad (back broken leaving the Philippenes and returned to retake them), gave him the medal to care for. It’s been in his converted cigar cabinet / display case my entire life. He always makes it a point tell anybody who might not know that it wasn’t his and who it belongs to. Needless to say his opinion on people embellishing anything isn’t very high. Hell he’s saucy about the “beer tab Purple Hearts” everybody else got. “Just because it wasn’t our bullets that hit them” lol.
I get what he’s saying but damn that’s fucked up for him to be thinking that way. I bet a lot of others think that way about themselves too. Obviously people who fought in big wars will be remembered more but anyone who served gets my respect. 20 years is a LOT of time to sacrifice for your country. Respect to your dad.
