In Episode 5 of the FightersAdvice podcast, we sit down with BJJ World Champion and historian Robert Drysdale to deconstruct the brutal history of Vale Tudo and the “Jiu-Jitsu Revolution.” From the 1955 roots of the sport to the massive divide between the Carlson and Helio Gracie lineages, we explore the truth behind the legends.

We dive deep into the Rickson vs. Royce debate, the evolution of techniques from the streets of Brazil to the Octagon, and why the teaching structures in the USA and Brazil are fundamentally different. If you want to understand where MMA actually came from, this is the deep dive you’ve been waiting for.

He always appears to be a very thoughtful guy. Best part of that vid was his analysis of differemt training methodologies

Drysdale is a really good historian for bjj, I’ve really enjoyed his books on the subject.
