I respect tony Ferguson and what he did for mma and other combat sports. Absolute legend
His weird ass style is generally not conducive to long term success, so it’s wild that he got as far as he did for as long as he did. However, it barely worked against a late replacement out of shape basically nobody (by comparison) in Lando Vantta.
He also ripped his knee apart walking in the back, and nobody ever fights the same after that, even worse for an awkward weird fighter like him.
Hes probably in my all time top 10 favourite MMA fighters. Guy was a nutcase and his style was so unorthodox yet, for a while, extremely effective. Its not surprising he fell off as hard as he did once he got older though. Its a similar situation to RJJ ie being a natural fighter who can get away with doing all kinds of unconventional shit but then slowing with age and starting to pay for it.
This is a timely thread. Im rewatching Gaethje v Tony right now. Let’s keep in mind Tony was still a feared dude with only 3 career losses at this point.
Justin is battering the absolute fuck out of him. It’s going into last round now. If remember correctly TFerg takes a jab then a straight, shakes his head as if he can’t even believe he’s about to do it, and then just gives up. His face is a fucking wreck right now. There’s no way this fight wasn’t the real beginning of the end for him. He took an some life changing damage in this fight.
All I can think of is how his hamburger face looks so similar to Illias after Justin fight. Jesus man this is rough.
I love Tomy but I just dont think he had the bottom game to keep Khabib off him. Barring a cut from an elbow or something, I think Tomy gets smashed into the canvas for a boring decison loss. Khabib wasnt a dumb fighter. He wouldve gotten it to the ground and held on for dear life. He wouldnt take any chances and it wouldve been as boring as it was meaningful.
