Topuria Reveals Return Timeframe

UFC champ Ilia Topuria won’t be out of our lives for long.

Topuria, the former UFC featherweight champ and reigning lightweight champ, has been taking a hiatus from competition as he deals with some personal issues outside the cage. Those issues involve the custody of his daughter, which had some fans worried he could be out of action long-term. However, the champ has revealed he hopes to fight again as soon as spring or summer.

Topuria shared his comeback plans with Marca reporter Irati Prat. He noted that the timeframe hinges on everything going according to plan, presumably in regards to his family issues.

Ilia Topuria’s incredible run in the UFC

Ilia Topuria sports an undefeated 17-0 record. He is currently riding arguable the best three-fight win streak in UFC history. In his last fight, he knocked out Brazilian legend Charles Oliveira to claim the lightweight belt. Prior to that, he became the first man to knock out featherweight legend Max Holloway to defend that division’s belt. In the fight before that, he claimed the featherweight title with a stunning knockout of another legend in Alexander Volkanovski. He has spent the last year jockeying for the UFC’s top pound-for-pound spot with Islam Makhachev.

If Topuria returns this spring or summer as he plans, his opponent will most likely be the winner of an upcoming fight between Paddy Pimblett and Justin Gaethje. The pair will meet for the interim lightweight belt at UFC 324 on Jan. 24. However, Arman Tsarukyan is also an option.
