In some states a doctor is assigned by the athletic commission, not sure who assigned this guy.
I don’t think Toupee beat Justin 5/5 times. I feel it was a perfect storm of Justin having the right of his life and Toupee being over confident and having a bad haircut. Pre divorce the results might have been different.
Doesn’t matter though. In this Universe Jistin won a brilliant fight and capped off a great event at the Whitehouse. This was a top 10 fight for me.
It’s one of the all time feel good moments of the sport, right up there with Bisping beating Rockhold for the belt
Justin looked like he was just trying to survive in those first two rounds. Even in the first when he was having success he looked like he was being knocked around and nowhere near as much pop on his punches even though they were doing exterior damage. Ilia had Justin looking really off balance and on the back foot.
I don’t buy this argument and here’s why…
Justin being so goddamn durable along with Goddard clearly having been instructed to let this fight go as long as humanly possible. Topuria’s face was shattered in multiple places, couldn’t see a goddamn thing, doc wanted it to be called and Goddard still forced it to continue.
Gnp wouldn’t have been enough to force a stoppage. Only a clean finish. And Topuria wasn’t about to knock Justin clean out. No way in hell.
I also don’t think Ground strikes from the mount would stop him, but maybe standing bombs would. In the end it doesn’t matter, in this universe Justin whooped dat ass
Yeah but Justin knew that’s what he needed to do. Also those were a few exchanges but Justin won the first round on all the scorecards.
In his interviews after he even says he knew he needed to survive the first two, especially the first, because Topuria was super fast and aggressive.
They had a gameplan and he stuck to it, and gave Ilia the beatdown of his life.
Justin shouldn’t have made it out of the 2nd. There was no gameplan for that part. Lol
He thought he could get Gaethje out of there early and he came so close to doing it ..
I’m glad that Topuria got humbled especially when he tattooed a victory on his body beforehand. Goes to show that nobody is invincible.
He did what a lot of fighters do when they get hyped up about their power. They fall In love with the KO. Reminded me of Aaron Pico, has all the talent, can box better than his opponent but fight recklessly because they think they’ll overwhelm everyone with their power.
I think Gane was going to win the fight either way. But landing 8 elbows to the back of the head insured he was woozy when he got up.
True and unfortunately we might see Tpuria really dial it back and fight a more laid back style thus a tad boring ..
It really doesn’t pay these days to go for the kill whrn you are fighting elite competition - u are much better off fighting and scoring points even though that style is frustrating to watch
Floyd mastered that style as he moved up in weight. He understood he couldn’t KO everyone, especially guys bigger than him.
Alex really had no business at HW.
At least not without years of slowly adding mass and getting used to it.
But even forgetting that, he just stands SO fucking static. Head straight up on a pole. Always there to be hit. And at HW, that’s a death warrant.
Agreed. Even Roy Nelson might beat him at heavy. Or guys of that caliber.
Gane is really good at making everyone look like shit on the feet. He’s too quick for a heavyweight and unless you take him down he has a good chance at landing something, I don’t think Tom beats him should that rematch ever happen.
Alex can afford to eat those shots from a 185er or most 205ers, he’s not eating bombs from Gane, Pavlovich, Aspinall… no chance.
Dat ass tho…

Exactly. Topuria fought and, most importantly, took damage like he just knew any one of his strikes was going to immediately end the fight.
He just threw caution to the wind and engaged in a firefight with a bigger and arguably more durable fighter who excels in these kinds of chaotic situations.
I think he and everyone else saw Max KOing Justin and just assumed, he’d be have no problem doing the same and could simply do it faster.
Topuria fought at one speed until he ran into a brick wall.
the tattoo story turned out to be fake news apparently
