UFC Fight Night: Sandhagen v. Figueiredo Thread

Nah he’s 100% right. It’s way more exhausting to waste time on the back.

This was 100% a Maxwell’s Demon scenario:

Figuerdo didn’t know the correct counter to backside 50/50 off the inside spin (Ryan Hall roll variation). Flared his knee and tried to stay on top that way once he was in top 50/50, allowing Corey to break him simply on the heist.

To your point though he definitely was a counter away from doom in that particular leg entanglement. If you take someone to BS 50/50, or any 50/50 position, it just favors the guy who is better at top 50/50.

If you watch 50/50 no gi now it’s like a points hack where you’ll see guys trade sweeps because it’s so symmetrical. Really getting to top 50/50 is not terribly difficult from bottom 50/50. Less backside getting played now that people like me are drilling the counters into white belts heads.

But interestingly 50/50 for MMA has been helped a lot by how much better heel slips are. It’s basically common knowledge now that unless you’re an outlier like Keith Kreikorian, no high level black belt is subbing another high level black with a heel hook because it’s too easy to get to the hands. So now rather than heel exposure people, guys are using it to hunt sweeps, like Corey did here.

Corey just made a bet he was better at Figgy there and cashed in.

Personally I always try to get to double 50 or backside cross ashi on the inside spin. Better heel exposure and better passing options if they defend correctly.

No offense man but this just shows you don’t understand leglocks.

“Unless you are trying to reverse position or get back to the feet” doesn’t make any sense. If playing leg entanglements correctly, these things are not either or. The defenses to the heel hooks are what opens up the passing channels, and vice versa. You have to be able to break people to create the threats that allow you to get on top.

Trying to force leg subs when they aren’t the correct thing to do is bad. But so is pretending an entire aspect of fighting just because it’s complicated and you don’t understand it yet.

I’m just not cut out for late nights anymore. Fell asleep right after the Stephen’s fight and woke up at 2:45. Didn’t even get to see the good fights. Woe is me.

Bo made a rookie mistake going for that guillotine. He was better off staying on top and working some gnp.

RDR bullied him in the clinch. Non stop attacks and Bo just wilted.

You sound like a man of experience in the dark arts… Oh you just put in your mouth till the swelling goes down

I worked Saturday morning for about 5 hours. Very physical work and I didn’t take a nap. Unloaded 3 box trucks and a Transit van full of electronics and had to scan every single item into their respective Bays

There was no way I was gonna be able to stay awake past midnight for a fight night card lol. Plus I was out late Friday night for a house party. I didn’t get enough sleep. So yeah I was toast lol
