IMO created fighters are more fun for competition against other players.
It’s because that’s the fighter you created and built up for that weight class. You controlled his strengths and style as he was coming up, and learned to master him as your fighter evolved.
Of course, that’s with experience playing games like Knockout Kings and Fight Night years ago.
I can’t speak for this game because I haven’t played it yet.
But I hope the create character / career mode is solid.
I lost an epic match at middleweight - Calzaghe vs RJJ 93. I was up a lot on two of the judges cards, I’d knocked him down two or three times, his face was badly swollen, and I had more stamina, but my face was even more swollen than his and the ref stopped the fight. I could have pulled it out with one more knockdown, I bet. I think he wasn’t getting up from the next one.
Middleweight is stacked and I hope they add Terence Crawford, who is already in the game and in multiple divisions, but he’s not available to use at middleweight right now.
I just lost again to RJJ 93 at middleweight, on swelling. Admittedly I wasn’t doing as well this fight as I was in the last one, where I was killing him except for my swelling.
I think I figured out one plus of directional punching.
When the other boxer moves(sometimes it causes the screen to rotate) pushing the left stick towards the opposing boxer seems to improve your landing chances.
It was a competitive fight but I was winning the stamina battle by quite a lot. I was trying to land more body shots than in my recent fights and I was successful with it. I was still bobbing and weaving and trying to make him miss and hit him with counter shots to the head, but I was doing a bit less of that and more of the body shots. I knocked him down twice and he didn’t knock me down. I was losing on the cards though, and I had some swelling. As I said, I had earned a big stamina advantage though.
I haven’t fought with the ladies. Maybe I’ll give it a shot. I need one who’s a good swarmer and is competitive in their division.
I like Calzaghe a lot though. I hadn’t used him until the last couple of weeks and I’ve played maybe 5 or 6 matches with him in that time. He’s definitely my “go to” light-heavyweight and middleweight. Ready to go in those two divisions now, with Joe.
I just checked out the ladies rosters for the two women’s divisions and Katie Taylor is a swarmer. After I go Rocky vs RJJ at cruiser I’ll do Katie Taylor vs Clarissa Shields at women’s welterweight. At lightweight Katie looks like she’s head and shoulders the best boxer, but at welterweight Clarissa is right there with her, and I believe rated slightly higher, so some good and fair fights can probably be had between Katie and Clarissa.
