A collection of performers have jumped ship and will no longer attend the UFC’s White House event next month in Washington D.C., but that doesn’t include famous hip-hop artist, Vanilla Ice.
UFC officials are planning to have a long list of activities and musical performances for its D.C. takeover, but things have taken a turn for the worse over the past week or so as multiple artists have withdrawn from the White House event due to political differences with President Donald Trump. This includes famous musicians like Bret Michaels and Martina McBride.
“Unfortunately, what was presented to us as a celebration of our country has evolved into something much more divisive than what I agreed to be a part of,” wrote Michaels on social media earlier this week. “Concerns have also been raised regarding the safety of my fans, band, crew, family and myself, including threats that are completely unfounded and unforgivable. Because of that, I have made the difficult decision to step away from this performance.”
He said “I don’t even vote”
Luckily for UFC officials and Freedom 250 planners, not everyone is dropping out of the event. Vanilla Ice, who has no known political affiliation, isn’t getting caught up in the politics surrounding UFC’s event on the White House South Lawn. Instead, the 58-year-old rapper is just looking to rock the mic no matter who it’s for, including Trump, Joe Biden, or even Vladimir Putin.
“I’m not going to get dragged into that,” Vanilla Ice told TMZ when asked about the political side of UFC’s White House event. “I’m here to party with America. Music is made to bring people together. That’s what we’re here to do. We’re just going to represent the 90’s. I don’t take anything too serious. I don’t think anyone else should. I think that we should just dance.”
“If Biden called…I’d go play,” added Vanilla Ice. “It’s not a big thing. You play for your fans. I’ll go play for Putin. I’ll play in Iran if you want. It don’t matter. There’s fans everywhere.”
Trump broke his silence with the below post on Saturday. The President seems ready to move on from all of the “third rate artists” canceling last-second and step in himself for a “major speech.”
Who would have thought that Joe Rogan would be one of the biggest critics of the big UFC Freedom 250 fights at the White House on Sunday June 14th?
There’s certainly been a lot of pushback from many in mainstream media circles decrying the decision to hold mixed martial arts fights on the South Lawn. But Rogan is the UFC’s own play-by-play commentator, so it’s a bit harder to ignore his opinions on the subject.
Past negative comments have revolved around the idea of doing the event during a war with Iran and forcing fighters to compete outside where it could be hot or wet or inundated with bugs. In the latest episode of The Joe Rogan Experience with Harland Williams, Rogan once again voiced those thoughts.
When the conflict between the U.S. and Iran started, there were multiple ‘decapitation strikes’ launched against Iran’s leadership that killed many of the country’s top political and military officials. While Iran has shown no sign they intend to strike the United States directly, Rogan clearly sees what a ripe target the event could be.
His main objection, though, comes down to adding unnecessary chaos to important fights that could affect the careers of some of the best athletes in the sport today.
“I do not like it because it’s outside,” Rogan declared. “And I think world championship fights should be in a controlled environment out of respect for the athletes and how difficult it is to compete professionally in a world title.”
“However, I should say, however, it’s going to be a spectacle,” he added. “Whether I was there or not, I would be watching, 100%. I think it’s awesome that Trump, this is one of the things that I like about him, he’s like, ‘F–k it. Let’s do it.’ He puts on cage fights on the White House lawn. That’s nuts.”
“He does wild s–t. I like that. I like that part. I don’t like the Iran war thing, but I like that.”
Communists are not people.
@Cotton i got this
Concert is cancelled
Crazy how lunatics get their way by making threats.
I guess it makes sense because they get such small penalties vs the other side.
I didnt care much about the concert but it makes me somehow kind of sad that even something like this we cant get together and celebrate, has to be threats of death and cancelled. Depressing.
Sweet, I was just about ask what Vanilla Ice thinks
Just remember it’s the those on the right that are violent.
