That’s what all the kanak’s told me. I was once told by my buddies that I wasn’t haole, but one of them was saying his brother was a haole. They said it was more attitude than skin color.
The only people who talked about Hawaiian Kingdom Movement on Maui were generally hapa Hawaiian meth heads and super Liberal whites.
The locals had their own license plates and hated the white-ification of Hawaii. If you hunted, did jitz/mma, surfed big waves, spearfished, etc. the Hawaiians accepted you.
The white people getting beat up is both overblown and real. The schools are rough, but for adults if you’re not a shithead and could handle yourself it just wasn’t a problem.
