it literally had no impact on him, i thought he was going to be taken out on a stretcher and he just shrugged it off. insane moment.
Late 1980s: I was with a group training/partying in Brazil and we met some locals that invited us to their gym.
The next day a couple of us went and rolled with them. We got manhandled, but went back the rest of the week to train. I had never heard of jujitsu and it was eye opening.
I told people in the states about the Gracie family but most didn’t believe us. Then in 1993 UFC came to the USA. I made a killing betting on Royce.
So, the most impactful fight to me was Kimo vs Royce as no one had been able to do anything to Royce at that time. I watched it live and haven’t seen it since so I am sure my memory is off.
But as someone who was in the fight business when the UFC started that had the most impact/validation.
OP @sean - Good topic and thanks for the trip down memory lane. RIP to the group I was traveling with back then. Call an old friend or family members and tell them you love them. Life changes quickly.
“Jesus wants me to go beat people up for money and he sent me my good friend, Joe Son, Derp!!!”
Lauzon over pulver was amazing, saw him fight at the smaller clubs here.
Nick over gomi. Another bad ass one.
View from my hotel room is honestly up there. Those that know, know. That was an amazing moment. The og was brought together. Anyone watching that pov knew what that fucking Barkley head meant. Ahahahahh… so good Hocky, so good. Bravo.
I would say Fedor vs Arlovski. Fedor’s popularity state side and with the casuals hit in all time high this fight.
I remember getting my bro and others into Fedor prior to the Sylvia fight. Seeing a bunch of WWE guys and Zab Judah etc at that fight was a start of his popularity.
A lot of casuals I knew tuned in for the Arlovski fight and my bro had a house party… I remember a few seconds before the KO he turned to me and said it’s not looking good lol.
yup, that must be the right one.
Came here to say this. Another is Big Nog KO’ing Schaub
i remember a post on upstandingfuckingcitizens, stayed with me.
the fella said every time he has sex he thinks of this fight - which explains why he only ever lasts a minute, as he spunks uncontrollably when BJM steps in to ‘save wand’s fucking life’
I love the ending of the Pete sell vs Scott smith
Randy beating Chuck
About six months after Fedor knocked out Arlovski, I saw Freddie Roach at the airport. He was by himself and we spoke about the different eras of boxing.
As a joke, I asked him why he implemented the flying knee into Arlovski’s fight plan. He was still píssed about it and went into great detail about the training camp and they didn’t train flying knees or anything that required going airborne. He just kept shaking his head no as he was reliving the fight in his head.
He was great to talk to and we snapped a few pictures with him. One of the few times having a flight delayed was a positive.
I remember Fedor saying he knew Arlovski’s tendencies… so he baited him into the flying knee.
Especially after Chuck’s super gay intro with the Tapout Crew and that Ice Ice Baby remix
I didn’t realize Roach was with Arlovski. Has Roach had any real success with MMA guys?

He taught GSP to jab lol
I would call that success, then.

I remember Fedor saying he knew Arlovski’s tendencies… so he baited him into the flying knee.
Never knew Fedor said that. Even makes it better.
Arlovski vs Roger:
Took a hot chick to the Arlovski vs Rodgers fight. We sat next to Fedor and were amazed that he was a heavyweight. Lawler was on the card and looked bigger than Fedor.
My date was an Arlovski fan and wanted to get a picture with him. So we went to the after fight party and he showed up a couple hours later wearing a full length fur coat. I told him to wait there so we could get the picture and he just stood by the entrance door until I came back with her.
She asked him why he was late and he shrugged his shoulders. She told him she was fine and didn’t want a picture after all. Some dude is his entourage put his hand on Arlovskis shoulder and said, “I don’t know Champ, just not our night.”
As a bonus, Rodgers wife put on a good show after the KO walking around the ring apron in high heels yelling at the crowd.
I am still stunned how small Fedor was. In this GIF you can see Chael is bigger than him.
fuck, that JCVD gif should not be inflicted on this thread!
conor/aldo was FUCKING AMAZING. literally amazing. whatever you think of conor, that was borderline genius.
said it before, hope not to bore anyone, but Pedro Rizzo refraining from soccer kicking Vernon White a second time and cheering happily. class.
Justin Gaethje telling a cynical press conference audience that he was the most violent lightweight on the planet. he was so certain, in the face of their scepticism, ‘you’ll find out, everybody’s gonna find out’
legendary character ^
mario sperry taking on a 22-year old ninja rua, getting concussed and blowing out his knee in the first minute and continuing to the end. like a fuckin man. very entertaining fight.
Don Frye allowing Ken Shamrock to destroy both of his knees and not tapping.
