George Gracie may be the most overlooked fighter in Gracie family history.
While Carlos built the Gracie Academy and Hélio later became the family’s most famous representative, George chose a different path.
He fought independently, challenged wrestlers, capoeiristas and Japanese judoka, and competed in the brutal mixed-rules contests that helped shape modern Brazilian jiu-jitsu and MMA.
Using original 1930s newspaper reports, rare photographs and contemporary fight accounts, this documentary explores George’s battles with Fred Ebert, Geo Omori, Mário Aleixo, Coronel and Naoti Ono—as well as the dramatic split that led Carlos to declare that George no longer represented the Gracie Academy.
