Who's your favorite boxer of all time?

Damn.

It’s evolved over the years.

#1 still has to be Mike Tyson.

I’m fully aware of the arguments against – and am more than willing to argue back.

After that, there are a bunch fighting for second place…

Roberto Duran
Joe Frazier
Muhammad Ali
George Foreman
James Toney
Julio Ceaser Chavez
Tony “The Tiger” Lopez
Mikkel Kessler
Evander Holyfield

And a bunch more..

I’m surprised it took this long for someone to say Tyson

Most exciting fighter ever IMO.

And still somehow underrated..

Me too. No one had the buzz and anticipation around their fights as he did. Maybe Ali but he was before my time.

Prime Roy Jones Jr. I was a little kid and my older brother was into boxing and had stacks of VHS tapes with Jones fights. Even when I was a little kid it was clear he was on a different level than any other boxer.

Dempsey, hands down.

Did you read his book?

Taught me a lot about punching power and how to use the wall to find your power arc. IE the exact spot where to land to have total power with each punch.

Hearns, Tyson…I’ve always liked Ken Norton, he wasn’t the best but I think he should have gotten more credit for his win over Ali. My favorite is probably RJJ, he was so entertaining

Kid Gavilan and Julian Jackson. I always liked how Kid threw his uppercuts and Julian made guys go to sleep before they hit the ground and he’s around my size.

For anyone who hasn’t seen this, you are in for a treat.

Ricardo Mayorga. He was awesome.

And he karate chopped Din Thomas into oblivion too.

One of my all time favorite boxings quotes was about Mayorga.

“I have never seen a man celebrate impending defeat so vigorously” - Jim Lampley

To which Merchant replies “he’s celebrating that he can finally have a cigarette”

Speaking of Hamed, my favorite is Marco Antonio Barrera.

He ended that sideshow bullshit definitively.
