He can’t accept that Gane was the better fighter that night. His ego is massive. We saw the same thing with Khamzat a few weeks ago. These guys spend years being told they’re unbeatable, so when they finally lose, they start blaming judges, officials, bad luck anything except the guy standing across from them. Sometimes the simpler explanation is the correct one, you got beat.

The complaints are mostly coming from people who lost money betting. If your guy was the one doing the beating you’d be silent. It’s the ref’s job to call illigal shots. Every fighter should be throwing the kitchen sink at the opponent to get the finish. I think the ufc and athletic commission need to make rule changes. Back of the head shots should absolutely be allowed. Soccer kicks and head butts as well. I have no idea why these are still deemed illegal. It’s time they have these rules changed.

While i agree about soccer kicks. I don’t agee about elbows or strikes to the brain stem or spine. Those can cause paralysis.

That’s the risk you take being a fighter. They can train to be aware and defend against these strikes. Has anyone ever been seriously injured from a headbutt in mma? I can’t recall

So I watched it. He got hit and went down. Herb is usually pretty good at stopping illegal blows.
I have to admit, from experience, getting hit in the back of the head feels a little below average.
It happened in the heat of battle. They ref is in the heat of battle, and sometimes things are missed.
Take your L and ask for a rematch. I’m sure Dana will grant one.

Your visual cortex is in the back of the head. The reason strikes are outlawed there is because it is you can easily go blind if you get hit hard enough in the back of the head. I’m all for having fights as close to actual combat as possible, but risking people going blind over a $20k purse is fucking retarded.

Back-of-head strikes are banned for brainstem/visual cortex risks. But in UFC/Pride history, accidental rabbit punches happen constantly with zero cases of blindness, paralysis, or major injuries. Pride soccer kicks were brutal but safe enough. Rules are more optics/insurance than proven danger.

Please tell me that you can see the difference between an accidental rabbit punch and an aimed full power shot without someone explaining it to you.
Not to mention it not being proven danger. We know what happens when you take trauma to those areas, which is why it’s banned.

Gane was reckless and there were (what looked to be) back of the head shots mixed in with legal ones. I hate this stupid rule only because it’s vague because of the area they deem back of the head. The commission draws it as some stupid strip down the back of the head when it should be clearer or just non existent.
