Why is The Cost of Raising Children INSANE in 2025?

Childcare costs are ridiculous, and in most cases seem to be much higher than the cost per child to go to school.

which already has a 2x bloated budget.

This type of shit right here. Wife and i chose for her to be a stay at home mom so we dont have to do the daycare thing but that means i have 2 jobs. Every year for school we are met with a list of things that each student has to bring that you would think would be mostly supplied by the school. Sports are also expensive as hell.

While I agree ever since the creation of the dollar inflation has been an ever growing factor. Ask for more than you think is fair

My wife got a double masters because it was cheaper to stay home delay student loans rather than send 2 kids to daycare.

Luckily I’m self employed and simply raise my fees and/or increase volume accordingly and my wife works. We are fortunate enough to be able to actively invest significant amounts of our assets where inflation doesn’t harm us much at all

I was speaking about most other people who are W2 employees, from my experience as a tax accountant dealing with hundreds of regular people clients

Yes but ( not the people here) most are weak and dont understand money.

Shit is too expensive = ask for more or find a better job

Jesus dude

This is very true

Especially the Spending side, as you mentioned

Can’t invest properly and significantly to make a difference without controlling spending first and doing your best to make as much $$ via your career

Spending on ps5 beer and take out = bad

Spending on property interest in a company or asset investment = good

Propety assets almost always beat inflation. Part of the weird issues we have today are too many young people dont buy property or have weird hang ups about what they should get for what price buying property

I don’t understand the US economy. I am rich according to the IRS I’m in the high 80 percentile of family income but I cant afford shit. My mortgage is 380k (I owe under 200k). All my cars are payed off.I do have 2 kids in college maybe combined 14k per year. I do not live the American dream. We don’t do vacations. I don’t buy dumb shit but the 180k combined income is not enough to give us a luxuries lifestyle. I just assume everyone around me makes a shitload more than I do.

In your defense you afforded to pay off cars, put 2 kids in college at the same time, and pay off half your mortgage

I think the man should power out and leave the wife to be a stay at home mom if day care is 2200 per kid. Have her take a couple of kids herself under the table then you are getting killed in taxes. She can cook dinner instead of eating out. She can run errands etc.

On the bright side, I am getting super strong, I can carry $200 worth of groceries up a flight of stairs to my $1950 a month 1 bedroom apartment in 1 trip!!!

Because people buy shit that you don’t actually need to raise a kid.

First thing on that video, ā€œday care cost $2,200 a month.ā€

My kid was never in day care. The most common reason people put their kids in daycare is because both parents work full time. Most of the time the cost associated with day care and everything else that absent parents spend money on is barely covered by the second salary.

My wife and I ā€œsacrificedā€ money for time with our kid and actually came out ahead.

Why is the cost of raising children insane

Because the market knows there’s no deeper, even irrational well of spending than a parent’s love. Industries attach themselves to that devotion like barnacles, turning every need, want, and insecurity into a monetizable ā€˜must-have.’ The more we idolize perfect parenting, the more companies inflate costs - because they know mums and dads will do anything, buy anything, and sacrifice anything to give their kids a leg up or keep up with the Joneses. Parents devotion to their offspring = profit centers in tiny shoes.

Things are outrageous but a big problem for a lot of people is that they insist on living in an area they can’t afford with a job they could do almost anywhere. If you aren’t in a high paying profession you should probably not live in a big metropolitan area. You probably shouldn’t live in the northeast or California in general. Not what anyone wants to hear but if you aren’t doing well that’s an easy fix.
