Why is The Cost of Raising Children INSANE in 2025?

I tell the young men in my trade west virginia and Missouri have the same hvac jobs

They just think of the clubs and the shore

I spent a decade in a low cost area reaching the high end of my trade before moving to a high cost area.

People demand success without change.

Daycare is like 300 a month net in the Netherlands.
So you pay the daycare full price, you mail the invoice to the government they compensate your daycare costs.

As someone who spent the majority of my childhood in a poor developing country and then moving to the us as an adult, Americans spend their money on so much stupid shit it’s crazy. It’s so easy to make money in this country so it’s easy come easy go. Ppl in other countries hold onto to their hard earned money with more stubbornness than a pitbull chewing on a toddler

I don’t really agree with these things. Its not bad data as much as poor insights from that data.

Children cost money but so does being single.

If you drop 1k a month on dining out and entertainment is that really better than dropping 1k on your childs food and blah blah blah.

People settle down when they have kids and the money just shifts.

If you look at the data at same age groups for couples with kids vs without.. Sure the households without have a bit more savings/assets/networth but its like 50-100k difference by the time those children are grown.

That kind of illustrates my point about these figures released for 500k and stupid numbers like this. Lol they don’t stand up to scrutiny.

Im not a fan of subsidized daycare we need to encourage women, not strangers, to raise their children.

It’s cultural, it’s not about money.

When ppl see kids around it subconsciously makes ppl want to have them. That’s what’s wrong with cities, the populations in cities are so demographically lopsided. No human society ever in history have children been such a small percentage of the population

This.

I have four kids. People (read: my wife’s progressive female friends) asked my wife why she didn’t work (at least up until our youngest went to school and she was at home doing nothing by that point).

She said “Daycare for 4 kids would run me ~5k a month. That’s 60K a year. My last job paid me 50K a year. I’d be spending all my time in a cubicle away from my children who need me, all so I can go into debt and be stressed the fuck out. No thank you.”

How much must you either hate your kids or else be so blatantly brainwashed by feminists that A WOMAN MUST HAVE A CAREER that you go into debt just to AVOID your children???

Americans are the worst parents in the world and that’s proven out by the mental illness rates of American kids. Very few American parents are normal. They either don’t look at their children or they are neurotic helicopter parents.

if youre poor, even an illegal alien, u can have all the kids u wan,t and the us govt will pay all the costs

And what? Depend on a man to take care of her?

A man is not a plan. She needs her own income too.

A man? Lol you mean her husband and father of her children?

We can always ban divorce if you want. I wouldn’t go that far but seems like you are suggesting it.

If you have your kids in tight grouping, a woman is only out of workforce for max 10 years then no reason why she cant work (maybe a bit less) while they’re at school.

Yes I mean the husband and father of her baby.

The days of depending on a man financially are over.

So many women stay home all those years and when the marriage doesn’t work out they are fucked. They have no job experience, and have to struggle to make ends meet.

A man is not a plan. Never.

They both struggle after divorce lol.

Divorce is horrible glad you agree.

Exactly what my wife did - my salary has always been enough for us to live on, though we would take care not to be to spendy and she even clipped coupons for a while ($50 a week = $200 a month, not too shabby for a couple starting out). Drove older cars that were paid off, etc.

Now that all of our kids are in school and she’s working, her whole salary goes roughly 1/3 to vacations, fun stuff, etc., 1/3 to retirement, and 1/3 to paying off our house and loans faster. She could quit tomorrow and we’d be fine, but this is the icing on the cake. And she was home for ~12 years while all the kids were little.

Too many friends do the same or else the wife worked from the get-go, and they have new cars, expensive houses, the latest toys, etc. They are not fine, and in fact they walk the razor’s edge.

Thankfully a couple listened to me when I told them “Look, I went to Harvard (only one year, long story LOL) and I graduated from LSU - there is nothing Harvard or any such school will teach you that you won’t get elsewhere.” So the college savings accounts they set up for their kids are (wisely) intended for state schools, not private ones.

maybe not for you, but it certainly is a plan and life goal for many women

I don’t doubt it. Still. A man is not a plan. Just like a man depending on a woman isn’t a plan.
