Will Gable Stevenson ever recover?

That was a BRUTAL knockout. And not just because it was brutal, or because he didn’t see it coming - his head flowed back like 15 feet. Like he just has an awful chin/chin muscle/neck/neck muscle set. I think he’s done after this, every other fight at least he will be knocked out IMO…

You’re right. He just collapsed and died backstage :open_mouth:

This isn’t good. That shot wasn’t Mark Hint caliber. That shot is hard to shake from your head.

Gable better remember he’s a wrestler. Those add up.

He will not be a top level guy of all time like everybody thought with Olympic gold medal and being trained by Jones etc. They had him fighting nobodies in bare knuckle boxing or whatever he did, and “bringing him along slowly” and he still got KO’d badly.

He had hand up to block the punch but lowered it and had eyes closed, that’s why he went out so easily, but he’s a dude that’s used to being the best at what he does, so this is going to crush him. The guy who’s bringing him up is famous for being undefeated and is just a Juco guy, all of this is going to fuck with his head.

JMHO, the paper tiger got smoked. He’ll fight again, but he’ll just be another guy. At 5’-10" maybe? He’s small for the HW class.
If he’s serious about MMA, he should regroup and get down to middle weight, where he’s still going to be small, but at least he’s got a chance.

I think he’s toast. He got buzzed in his two previous fights & KTFO tonight. Which is indicative to me of a fighter with a glass jaw. To make matters worse, he fights with his chin straight up in the air. IMO he’s a world-class wrestler, but a horrible fighter.

Missed the fight but I remember his first UFC fight he was playing with fire and got tagged a few times while rushing in with his chin way up. Dude has a long way to go before he should be confident in standing up with guys and even then, it doesn’t sound like he can withstand HW blows.

Should be interesting to see how how he responds with his next fight. His opponent tonight was 4-2 and was coming off his first two UFC fights, both TKO losses. Not a good look for Steveson.

Just another arrogant, elite grappler who convinced himself he should stand and Wang.

I’d add that he seemed to have his mouth open at the time of the strike.

I honestly didn’t see him getting ktfo, especially in 12 seconds. That is something that will be extremely hard to get over psychologically. It will be interesting how he comes back. I thought he was going to be DC 2.0
