Win me a bet - Prime vs Prime in terms of pure athleticism

Tyson vs Jones, obviously not who would win a fight but who was the more gifted athlete. Suppose we let them prepare for the combine all things being equal, then they go head to head at the same weight, call it 225

Jon couldn’t even dunk a basketball in his earley 20s. How the fuck is that possible, with his size? Not to add he’s slow as shit.

His fighting skills were God given. Not his athleticism.

Oh Jon. Initially was thinking Roy. Shoot. Guess Jones still.

Sorry lurker I guess you werent there for our breakfast argument just now so thats a fair assumption

I did mean Bones not RJJ

Personally I think Tyson has him beat in speed and strength which I guess means power too

Where or how do you guys see Bones being more athletic?

RJJ was more athletic than both of them IMHO

Are we talking sprints, weights, jump ability?

I remember reading Tyson benching 245 the first time when he was 13.

His training routine seemed a bit excessive:

Daily Routine Details

4:00 a.m.: Wake up, followed by a 3–5 mile run.
Morning: 2,000 squats, 2,000–2,500 sit-ups, 500 push-ups, 500 bench dips, 500 shrugs (often with 30kg/66lbs), and 10–20 minutes of neck bridges.

Noon/Afternoon: 10–12 rounds of sparring, followed by 10–15 minutes of jump rope.

Mid-Afternoon: Heavy bag work, speed bag, pad work, and 60 minutes on a stationary bike.

Evening: Additional calisthenics (dips, push-ups, sit-ups) and more neck bridges.

I also voted thinking it was Roy.

Tyson.

Jones was a good athlete but not mind-blowing. I would put DC over him in that regard. Most certainly people like GSP and Romero. His strengths were skill, fight IQ, reach, fouls, PEDs.

wasn’t that workout proven to be faked by some british kid?

and i agree that it is excessive for anyone except maybe a teenager

id think that we would have footage of Tyson lifting as a younger man if he did but we don’t

yeah nfl combine type shit

I actually don’t think either are multi sport athletically gifted. I think they are both combat gifted.

I wonder if Mike came up in this era and got some wrestling training with his boxing if anyone would stand a chance. Jon in his prime would be the only one due to distance management, kicks, and underrated wrestling and submissions.

I think Tyson would tear up mma in this era given the right training

Did you see him man handle 6’6ers in the clinch? imagine he knew how to clinch fight

dude was ungodly strong i’ve heard
