All Aspects of TENNIS Discussion

I like talking about current and upcoming tennis tournaments, where the various all-time great tennis players rank, and so on. I know that other people like talking about their own tennis games and their equipment, and I like to read about their experiences and their thoughts.

Please discuss anything tennis here.

In terms of the GOAT debate, I’ve got, in this order:

Djokovic
Nadal
Federer
Sampras
Borg
Lendl

Alcaraz looks like he’s going to make a run at it.

I’m excited about the upcoming US Open.

You trying to summon AngryInch to the new spot? Is that guy still around? Was he posting under a different name these last few years, or totally mia? Don’t remember when he disappeared, but tennis made me think of him.

I probably have Federer at #1.

Beyond that I struggle with the order.

But Connors and McEnroe definitely belong on the list.

Carlos actually won the U.S. Open in 2022, you’re prob thinking of the Australian open. That’s the last one he needs to win to complete the grand slam.

Only aspect that matters is that it’s gay as hell. Shame on you, Faggot.

Doesn’t seem gay to me…

I seem to remember him being on a guitar thread too.
Played a mean Sultans Of Swing.

Where are we ranking the females? I still think Graf and Navratilova go 1 and 2.

You are correct. Thanks. I subsequently edited the OP.

(And I really did know that, but got mixed up for a moment)

Graf #1 for sure.

The GOAT.

It’s close, but I think it’s Graf by a nose.

When I was a kid, my parents and my best friends parents, who lived right next door, used to come up with stuff to keep me and my friend both busy and away from them so they could get some peace. They signed us up for tennis camp a few summers at a country club. Not a high falutin club just to be clear. We had to ride our bmx’s to camp which was not even close to our neighborhood it was a long ride on a bmx. Pretty much the opposite side of town. There were cute girls our age and older and some of the tennis instructors were hot too. I think thats why we made it there every day. I vividly remember the older girl i used to drool over.

Tennis is not easy. Just to get good enough to have a competitive match against someone else takes a lot of work. I got to be decent for my age and experience but once you get less than shitty at it, it becomes infuriating when the ball doesn’t go where you expect it to. I never really played outside of that camp but it was fun. Im glad our parents forced us to be active, busy, and learn shit we otherwise wouldn’t. In current times, our parents would probably be arrested for child abuse or neglect for letting us into the wild like that. Such a joke… id say we started going to that camp in maybe 4th grade? Once i started football camps, that was the only camps id go ever again

Fast forward to now. I have a tennis court in my yard. It was installed by the last owner. Ive never played a lick of tennis on it but i let any kid in the neighborhood use it if they want.

My friend and I had two old wooden rackets. We barely kept score. It was more exciting to keep a point going for longer than two hits before hitting the net or going out of bounds. Definitely harder than it looks.

On a gayer note, we used to play a lot of badminton. Not gonna lie, I loved it.

Did you see him snap yesterday? I think that was his first racket smash but at least he had great form leading with the elbow. Also Draper fucked FAA bad on that call I think he’s gonna get boo’d bigtime tonight lol

I spent hundreds of hours practicing alone against the chain link fence. Only allowing one bounce on the ground. Really helped my hand-eye and my lateral movement.
Started about two feet away and played with volleys then slowly backed off until I was doing full swing forehands and backhands.
Hundreds of hours trying to figure out if I wanted to serve like Becker, McEnroe or Wilander.
Hundreds of hours to decide if I was going to serve and volley or fuck around on the baseline…

I miss tennis

Wimbledon was one of my favorite parts of summer when I was a kid. School would finish right around when it began, I’d hunker down and watch it on HBO. The championship was always on July 4th. After that, summer begins. I was a huge Navratilova fan. She was unbeatable until Graf came along. I remember rooting for Michael Chang every year; the rise (and fall) of Jennifer Capriati.

We’re about the same age I figure.

We played while it was raining right up till the balls were too soaked. I remember going to the court at 9am in Saturdays and playing mini-tourneys until supper. 10-15 sets .

I played in 8th grade and play weekly with my youngest. I may pay for lessons to learn how to hit a forehand
