One of the blue belts in my academy trains Judo and recently has been pushing the benefits of doing tai chi. I’d say he’s the opposite of closed minded, but it’s a lot different now than it was back then. I remember a lot of Muay Thai guys from my old gym would make fun of BJJ and how it’s gay to lay on your back. Obviously none of them watched MMA

I trained a hybrid TMA in the late 90s. Mix of karate, judo, hapkido. A lot of it was pretty hokie but I got super flexible, learned some good throws (that I still use in jiu jitsu) and can fire a front kick to the chin that can’t be seen coming.

This was back in the late 2000s. Post TUF but tons of people even martial artists didn’t know what it was.

You may be onto something. I’m a martial artist and I’m extremely closed minded. Even though I completely agree with you, I still kinda want to shit all over this opinion.
But I usually like you quite a bit on here so I’m going to try to avoid being a jerk.
Being closed minded is awesome though. Why would I think about other people thoughts? I got my own thought to think on!
The only ones worse are gun people.

I wrestle with this a lot.
You have people that are gun people that have piles of guns but don’t shoot. Then you have gun people that shoot constantly but only have ~half a dozen.
I tend towards the type of gun guy that has a few handguns and a couple rifles that I frequently shoot instead of having a safe full of guns that I take out and look at now and again.
I don’t know if one type is more “gun guy” than the other.

Disagree… If I say anything about punching people not being the best way to defend yourself, like 130 lb boxer is not supposed to not punch 180 lb boxer or a little girl can’t knock at a big guy… The boxers, kickboxers, karate people come out of the works and just harass me.
I get the understand nothing about joint manipulation, close quarters grappling forget that s*** but Jesus… At least try to learn something
