Australia’s first ever amputee cage fight

In June 2024, Buck Cooper and Glenn Dickson made history by competing in Australia’s first-ever cage fight between two amputees. The event, organized by Explosive Fight Promotions, took place at the Fred Moule Exhibition Centre in Cairns.

Buck Cooper is a New South Wales resident who lost his left leg and the use of his left arm in a head-on motorcycle accident 11 years prior. Despite having only one functional arm, Cooper won the match.

Glenn Dickson is a former semi-professional Muay Thai fighter from Queensland who lost his right leg after a shark attack while spearfishing in 2017. Dickson initiated the matchup by contacting Cooper via Instagram after struggling to find opponents willing to fight an amputee.

The match was a caged Muay Thai bout fought with 4oz MMA gloves. Both athletes used prosthetic legs during the fight to demonstrate that individuals with limb differences can compete in combat sports.
