Royce Gracie started his historic UFC 1 tournament win with a match against professional boxer Art Jimmerson (RIP).
What confuses everyone is as to why Art Jimmerson tapped while mounted after receiving no damage.
In Art Jimmerson’s last interview prior to passing, he told us all of the dirty secrets and head games that were being played by the Gracie family.
It is not a surprise to hear that controversial referee Big John McCarthy was one of the central figures creating these issue with the tournament combatants.
LMFAO! Yes, poor Art Jimmerson could have easily won that fight if only big bad John McCarthy hadn’t warned him about being choked out ahead of time. That fight ended as well as it possibly could for Jimmerson, imo.
Cliffs?
It airways looked to me like Jimmerson panic-tapped.
that idiot stopped the sakaraba match, worst call in ufc history.
it was so bad that the fight was allowed to continue.
In Big John’s mind, he played a key role in the success of the UFC. No one gave him the credit he felt he was owed and now he’s bitter.
Big John always wanted to be the star. That British fat fuck ref is just the same. Don’t they realise that Dana is the only star?!
Josh Rosenthall was the best ref until he got busted for weed growing I think.
Absolutely fuck all is the best summary
was hoping @MMAHistoryPodcast would chime in
He stole “lets get it on” from Mills Lane.
I like John but he was inconsistent. He let some fights go on forever after horrendous beatings, as well.
The state really fucked Roselnthal.
This is a well known story. Big John trained with the Gracies. He was also (obviously) employed by Rorion as a ref / consultant. He went into Art’s dressing room and was playing the role of helpful advisor by giving Art a few tips. He showed Art a basic armbar and gave him the tip to tap out immediately or his arm would be broken to the point he likely could never box again. UFC was obviously nothing established and for all these guys knew, it would be a 1 time event that would be forgotten about immediately after it happened.
Seems like Big John just wanted to limit the possibility of a catastrophic injury. I don’t see any foul.
KO your opponent to be speared by a 285 pounds Big John.
Brian Johnson was a good one.
That’s one way to look at it. Another way was that he was unduly influencing the outcome of a tournament by encouraging a participant to quit when faced with adversity, thereby giving his employer an unfair advantage.
yeah it airsupplied that way to me too, but he almost the whole thing
liver king??? the UK politician??? the old ADCD singer guy???
