“Built Like A Fighter” Used in mma circles, especially the UnderGround Forum at mma.tv, to describe someone who is not actually an mma fighter, but is built like one. Reputed origin is an article describing Dana White, President of the UFC, as “built like a fighter”; hence, to date, blaf has most often been used in reference to Dana White.

One of our own put the entries into Urban Dictionary back in 2007 and 2008, lol.
No org in America was anywhere near as developed or visible as the UFC was at the time they purchased it though. Then theres the connections thing, they were running shows in Vegas pretty much instantly once they took over.
Pride never properly went after the American market. Strikeforce was building a lot of momentum and starting to look like a possible future threat, so they bought it before it was too late.
Connections sure. It’s hard to know how much success to attribute to Dana White Vs Lorenzo. UFC has continued to make more money and grow financially post Lorenzo so props to Dana White but the product itself peaked when Lorenzo was still there.
would have been fascinating if they stayed independent.
goddammit Dan Henderson decided to go there to get a better deal. a bit more of that would have been great for everyone except the greediest and richest people involved.
Dana has survived leadership changes from 1 billionaire to another to pretty much becoming a billionaire himself and yet everyone still calls him lucky. Guy is an asshole but separate your feelings from the fact that both the Fertittas and Ari Emanuel clearly felt he had value. They weren’t going to give him ownership that would be worth over $500m out of charity.
That said Hearn and Dana are both faggots when it comes to this shit. Dana is right though with SELA boxing would probably be dead. The alphabet orgs have killed it over time.
Not only give him ownership but they’ve all said they wouldn’t be involved in the business without him… And when you consider what’s happened with every other org I understand why.
Dana isn’t some genius. He’s a bellboy who had a rich friend at his private school (which was really paying off, lol) who tossed him some cash.
Of course, that rich friend had a brother on the athletic commission who helped destroy the UFC and its business, which was very financially convenient when they later bought it for peanuts.
Dana is a POS, and his friends are crooks.
Without that private school opportunity, he’d be boxercising with soccer moms, carrying luggage at a hotel, or checking in members at Planet Fitness.
And if his rich, crooked friend had laughed at him instead of tossing him the cash? That private school opportunity would’ve led exactly where it already had: boxercising with soccer moms, carrying luggage at a hotel, or checking in members at Planet Fitness.
Do you think rich people pick a random person and hand them tens of millions of dollars.
Look at how well capitalised PFL is. Pride had a few years of more revenue than UFC during their parallel runs.
You guys are hilarious lol.
You sound like zero sum communists. The business was going to do what it was going to do regardless who ran it.. that is communist zero sum ideology. Congrats you’re a commie..
I need some of these friends who just willingly make you a billionaire lol
Dana’s personality can be off-putting but the amount of mental gymnastics people have to do to discredit him after almost 3 decades being at the top of MMA and UFC is hilarious.
