What a great career. The man is a true champion and a real martial artist and absolutely belongs in the same sentence as GSP, Anderson, Jon Jones, Fedor etc.

It’s actually criminal that this isn’t a bigger deal. I’m really happy to hear he’s going full out on bjj. I am looking forward to watching him complete. I understand he didn’t medal at the IBJJF. No shame in that though. Sounds like he did well nonetheless.

Dude is a class act that never got the respect he deserves.

Focusing on bjj is awesome for him. And an awesome story for whoever gets to compete against him.

Dude is a legend but his announcement was dogshit.

“Before my secret announcement, I would like to think my wife, my coach, my friends, sobs, sobs,”

HMMM wonder what he is announcing.

I can’t believe he retired after not fighting for a year and a half, and his last 3 fights all being against the same guy.

He was boring as shit in the UFC,
But turned it on in One. Maybe he should have always been over there

“He was boring in UFC”

If I’m not mistaken he has the record for most submissions in UFC title fights and is top 5 for most finishes in title fights.

That Fucking knee on Moraes is so perfect.

He had some good stoppage wins, but a lot of his fights were awful and people begged him for him be traded off to One. When we used to go to watch UFC at the sports bars, everybody would get up and leave during his fights. There was no sense of danger in several. The whole OG wanted his division eliminated.

He didn’t get start getting more exciting until he aged. The Dodson and Ali fights were paint drying. The second McCall fight wasn’t spectacular either.

I can’t believe he never made an attempt to avenge that.

I definitely believe this. Real fans loved DJ, the just bleed crowd called him a “midget” which is very weird actually considering many of boxing’s greatest fighters in history have always been between 126-135 lbs.

Oh Jesus Christ. The “real fan” excuse. Go jerk off to the little boy body women fighters going to decisions to prove how much of a hardcore fan you are bro

I had friends who were MASSIVE mma fans and had been since the Pride days, who would walk out. His fights had no sense of danger for a long time. Somebody throws a jab, he retreats 10 feet backward, that’s how a lot of 125er fights were. Shit was awful. A lot of his big submission wins came against nobody’s too.

True. This little guy could never beat a large, athlete in a combat sport. Thank you for enlightening us with your obvious knowledge.

Now you’re going for a straw man argument. What the fuck are you even talking about and who are you arguing with here, it must be yourself.

Be Great The Best GIF by SportsManias

Good fighter but closer to the Amanda Nunes category than the GSP/Silva/Jones/Fedor category.

1 or 2 great opponents - one of them being a very green Cejudo. A lot of “who?” opponents.

Would have been interesting to see him at 135.
