Don Frye on Mark Kerr. Lol

This the part I remember. It’s a good interview if you look up the whole thing.

I’m getting the conversations mixed up lol.

Kerr would be more likely to knee Frank?

How many wins via standing knee does Kerr have? I can think of one off the top of my head.

I was saying Frye is a dangerous fight for Frank including standing up.
Frank is technically more dynamic.
Frye has HW power and is durable as hell.

We’re going back and forth a lot here, and are probably closer than a lot of MMA arguments – and you and I have a tendency to FRAT over details.
As usual I think we agree more often than not, and the smaller disagreements often make for better debate than bigger ones.

.
.

I think that in a perfect technician’s world, you have good points about Enson vs Frye.
But old-school NHB wasn’t always that world.
Fights could get ugly, and that’s where I think Frye excelled, and UFC Frye had both the durability and stamina to be game as hell. He was uncommonly strong. Not quite Ken/Coleman/Kerr level strong – but a notch or two below IMO – and in his smaller frame than he would have later in Pride – he could be a bit of a demon in those ugly moments of a fight.
Frye was cut from the same cloth as a guy like Dan Henderson IMO, where he’s just down for the war.

I remember what Frye once said about Ken.
Frye was friends with Severn and trained with him. He said (and I’m paraphrasing) he didn’t think the man lived who could handle Severn like Ken did – and ever since then he wanted to test his size against Ken’s size.
That was his attitude.
I mean, the guy took a fucking kickboxing rules fight with Le Banner!
Why??
I guess Frye would say “why not”?
And again, I’m probably biased.
I got drunk with Frye and looked into his eyes for a good amount of time, and that man has something in his eyes that I’ve only seen in the most formidable men I’ve met in my life, including some specialized soldiers with heavy shit behind them. The way they look through people, with a hint of humor, like the world is their twisted amusement park and we’re just here for them to observe.
Of course, none this anecdotal shit matters when a superior technician is controlling you and cutting off the blood ad oxygen to your brain like an boa snake.
I’m well aware.

Let’s just say that Frye vs Enson would have been something I would have liked to have seen.

No I meant Don. I don’t think Don beats Mark standing.

He can’t stop Mark from clinching and I honestly don’t think he’d beat him even in a boxing match.

Igor, Branko…of those guys couldn’t put Mark away standing, I can’t fathom Don Frye does.

I love Don. I just can’t imagine the scenario.

I think Frank beats Don up standing too.

I’m a retard who can’t read lol. I wasn’t thinking Frank x Don until this post. Frank survived standing with Bas, he’s another guy I just can’t imagine Don hurting. Frank had good showings in pure striking matches with guys like Diaz and Cung.

Frank and Don are just from different eras, even if they’re only a few years apart. Those few years are huge when we’re talking good guys from 96 vs good guys from 98. Frank was 7 years younger. He had the opportunity to start his career in the best gym in the world at the time. Don was amazing for what he was able to do. But to me that’s like Royce x Matt Hughes type of difference in eras (even though I know it’s not the same amount of time.)

I definitely get what you’re saying here.

Enson though, he really lived the Yamato Damashii life. He wasn’t tank who would look for an exit when he was tired. He would fight to the death.

The sounds he made begging to continue with Igor when he was literally being beaten to death, that’s some wild shit.

I think there are a lot of guys who are technically better than Don that Don beats by being tougher and making it ugly. I just don’t think Enson Inoue is one of them.

Does anyone else think Kerr looks black? We need a paternity test.

Or is he the guy that Tank Abbott killed in the octagon?

Steve Nelmark was the first name that came up when you said that.

Interesting.

In a boxing match I’d favor Frye based on stamina alone.

But I never said Kerr wouldn’t take him down.
I questioned what the result would be at the end.
We are in agreement of what it would look like on paper.

At range, probably.
At some point it gets ugly from the clinch or off of breaks, and Frye is the naturally bigger more powerful man.

Frank and Bas were pretty evenly matched.

I’d like to see UFC Frye vs Bas.
Would be interesting.

We’re getting into the weeds of hypothetical matchups now lol.

Actually, Frank had 12 fights before Don had his first. Frank being more advanced is because of where he trained, not when he started.
Frank had the advantage of being trained by Ken, training with the Lions Den, and getting experience in Japan while he was still green.
Plus – Frank just had a gift.

Frye on the other hand, just came out and threw down.

Frank was definitely the more advanced technical fighter and more dynamic than Frye, for obvious reasons.

How would that play out in an actual NHB fight between the 2?
Honestly I’ve not given it a lot of thought before this conversation.

I’m of the opinion '96 Ken beats '96 Frye.
'96 Frank? Maybe. He would definitely have to be more methodical about it. Ken would have more room for error.

Did you know Frye fought 11 times in the UFC in '96?
I kind of knew that – but I don’t know that I really looked at it from that perspective until now.
Pretty impressive.

Good talk.

Yep.

Tanks 2 best wins IMO.

I kind of LOL when people suggest Tank would have beat Ken.

part puerto rican

Frye is still from a generation before Frank though. He’s a tough local boxer with a little bit of wrestling experience when that combination was enough to be one of the baddest men alive. Frank is not of that era.

Those two might as well be 2 different species

That’s so wild. Don truly is the ultimate manly man.

My favorite weeds to get into lol

While I don’t think it’s an absolute by any means. He absolutely could.
