I truly do think that Gable is the guy that will reignite the ufc hvwt division. He’s an elite wrestler and very athletic and I think if you put him in the ufc tomorrow that he’d get to right around rank 5-6 just due to his wrestling alone .. he’s young and add hands and bjj to the mix and he will be the guy to smash Aspinal ..
None of the American wrestlers can ever wrestle more than one or two rounds without being exhausted. He couldn’t strike with Aspinall if he trained nothing but boxing for the next 10 years
I don’t feel he will need to strike with Aspinal - a quick 1-2 then a duck and blast double will have Tom on his back .. we still haven’t seen Tom fight an elite grappler yet - Gable is that guy
I think that’s exceedingly harsh. First of all he is an Olympic champion, Pan Am Champion, Big 10 Champion x4, NCAA division I champion x2, world’s champion (junior) x3. He walked through the Olympics, which was crazy l. His loss to Wyatt Hendrickson was more about how great Wyatt wrestled than Gable not performing. Steveson Wrestled very well for yand aggressively, Hendrickson was just better on that day.y
He’s definitely training striking. But I do agree it’s wise to let him mature a little bit before proclaiming him the greatest thing ever. To call getting 2nd place at the NCAA Division I championships a “failure” is a bad mentality. That’s a great accomplishment and one any reasonable person would be exceedingly proud of.
Gable hasn’t even had a single MMA fight yet and we’re assuming he’ll make it into the UFC?
Looks like his first fight is Sept. 12th. Let’s see how he does against a 1-0 nobody before we start talking about “reigniting the UFC HW division” lol
