Gable Steveson will dominate MMA

I truly do think that Gable is the guy that will reignite the ufc hvwt division. He’s an elite wrestler and very athletic and I think if you put him in the ufc tomorrow that he’d get to right around rank 5-6 just due to his wrestling alone .. he’s young and add hands and bjj to the mix and he will be the guy to smash Aspinal ..

Agree or disagree?

Disagree

He doesn’t have the heart of a champion and we saw that in March.

So how far do you see him getting then?

None of the American wrestlers can ever wrestle more than one or two rounds without being exhausted. He couldn’t strike with Aspinall if he trained nothing but boxing for the next 10 years

Has he taken a singe punch to the face yet?

Let’s slow the roll if not

I don’t feel he will need to strike with Aspinal - a quick 1-2 then a duck and blast double will have Tom on his back .. we still haven’t seen Tom fight an elite grappler yet - Gable is that guy

I’d love to see him have success. That would make for some much needed excitement in the division.

Gable would walk through every HW outside the top 3 then give up soon as he was tested by elite competition.

Just like Bo will dominate

If he doesn’t win his debut I predict he joins the Marines and fails boot camp. Dude’s been a total dud at everything since he won the gold medal

All the years of hype and people practically awarding him the title before he has had a single fight is setting him up for failure imo.

I think that’s exceedingly harsh. First of all he is an Olympic champion, Pan Am Champion, Big 10 Champion x4, NCAA division I champion x2, world’s champion (junior) x3. He walked through the Olympics, which was crazy l. His loss to Wyatt Hendrickson was more about how great Wyatt wrestled than Gable not performing. Steveson Wrestled very well for yand aggressively, Hendrickson was just better on that day.y

He’s definitely training striking. But I do agree it’s wise to let him mature a little bit before proclaiming him the greatest thing ever. To call getting 2nd place at the NCAA Division I championships a “failure” is a bad mentality. That’s a great accomplishment and one any reasonable person would be exceedingly proud of.

Maybe, but I also thought Anthony Cassar would be good. He ended up struggling against a 0-1 guy and then retiring.

I think he could well be like Cormier had Cormier went into MMA much sooner. He is already a superior wrestler at least based on his accomplishments.

Gable hasn’t even had a single MMA fight yet and we’re assuming he’ll make it into the UFC?

Looks like his first fight is Sept. 12th. Let’s see how he does against a 1-0 nobody before we start talking about “reigniting the UFC HW division” lol

The fact that we’re already on the second iteration of him deciding to train MMA with exactly zero fights in the first one does not bode well.

Lucky for him most heavyweights suck. He’ll have some early success and get broken by good guys.
