What was kimo’s whole jesus angle about?

He’s juiced to the gills, bff with joe son, and later reappears as a meth head years later.

It had to be a money grab grift

Funny story here.

I was coming back from UFC 4 and I was on the same plane as Kimo and Joe Son. Kimo was a few rows back and Joe Son was in the seat ahead of me. The plane started to experience some turbulence.

When we hit a few seconds of extreme turbulence Joe Son turned around and yelled: “This is it Kimo! We are going to meet Jesus!”

The lady a couple of rows over started screaming at Joe Son to shut up lol. Dan Severn was three rows up and I could see him shaking his head

This story is my biggest regret that camera phones didn’t exist in the 90s

I remember reading a different account by another fighter on the plane in an MMA article years later. He exaggerated the story that the plane had rolled completely on its side and we were about to crash which was complete bullshit lol.

If Kimo didn’t have a pony tail would history be different?

Possibly.
We’ll never know.

But it’s not like that was a one-off.
Royce submitted everyone in his path – including other big and more skilled guys – up until the second Ken fight.

I think he earned the benefit of the doubt.

Nah I think Kimo was physically exhausted to the breaking point. Of course, so was Royce. But no matter what you think about Royce (I always found him to be a genuinely unlikable personality, even at seminars), he was tough as hell.

Royce is why I started BJJ, he beat multiple fighters with no rules.

Still I think Royce loses that fight if there was not ponytail for Royce to death grip

I think people misremember the ponytail as being a bigger factor than it was. Rewatch the fight and refresh your memory. If I recall, the fight goes on much longer after the hair grab.

This is something he doesn’t get enough credit for.

Yes we all know that having the techniques his opponents weren’t trained to avoid was a huge part of it.

But Royce went in with a chip on his shoulder.
He was in there with some physical monsters who were skilled in their approach, as well as some legit dangerous strikers.
He took punches from tough guys like Hackney and Pat Smith.
He was in bottom position vs Severn, who might as well have been a bear compared to Royce.
He subbed Shammy the first time, who was a physical freak, and probably the second most skilled grappler of that UFC era.
And he weathered the storm vs Kimo.

And the look on Royce’s face was always like “what? Come on!”

He didn’t end up being my all time favorite in MMA…
But I’ll never forget his run.
It changed a lot of lives, including my own.

Still the greatest david vs goliath fight of all time, imo.

Did Gracie know he wasn’t gonna fight Harold Howard when he went to the octagon? If he did, that’s messed up.
