Again, Evander is better in every meaningful and measurable way. Against common opponents, head to head, in terms of accomplishments, strength of resume. He’s just a better boxer. Doesn’t mean Tyson wasn’t great.
I tend to think he’s partially trolling too.
No halfway knowledgeable person thinks Douglas beats a peak Tyson who actually came prepared.
But the idea that anyone who got KO’d more than once by professional HW fighters – had a “weak” chin – is absurd.
So hopefully that’s part of the troll.
Nobody is suggesting that Lewis has a chin like Chuvalo.
But there’s a ton of landscape between that and a “weak chin”.
I asked you to name me someone who fell off like Tyson did and is still considered great… So you name someone who was arguably better in his late career than he was in the early career
Fighting a guy who is basically hung over and has been partying for weeks is a pretty good advantage itself.
So is fighting a guy who can’t see out of one eye because his corner is a joke.
“Hey guys, I know Mike Tyson fell apart in basically every tough fight he ever had, but it’s not ok for you to use that as evidence he might struggle in this tournament… I drew a fake line that only includes the fights he won! We must adhere to the line!”
Not for nothing, but Mike Tyson was without a doubt the most carefully managed heavyweight champion ever. He fought exactly 1 fight as an underdog in his career (vs Lennox Lewis).
Witherspoon was an also ran at that point. Cooney as well. Morrison, Tua (Ibeabuchi too I guess) Byrd are good ones. George would have been a great fight. Moorer as well. Good list. Also I don’t think he would be the underdog against most if not all of them.
He fought Bruce Seldon instead of Bowe, Lewis or Evander. The Holyfield fight was signed after Holyfield looked totally washed against Bobby Chyz. I’m not suggesting Tyson was a coward. I’m suggesting Don King could make unlimited amounts of money having him fight guys like Buster Mathis and it wasn’t worth risking him against someone like Lewis. People wanted to see Tyson execute people, the public at large wasn’t interested in a competitive fight. They enjoyed the novelty of the baddest man on the planet. He would have been favored going into a fight against anyone. But Bowe would have battered him I believe. He’d be a huge underdog in a rematch. How we never got a third Holyfield fight will always mystify me.
