When you saw this fight for the first time what did you think? Anderson was going into the fight with a bare knuckle record of 86-0(all by knockout ) and Hess was a 300 pound Safta master.. the fight starts and even though Hess looked soft, he took it right to Andy and pummeled him with kicks and punches .. Anderson had no defense to that type of attack
Too bad Hess didn’t get to fight Severn in the next round - I don’t think he does very well in that one
Early mma was so interesting — btw does anyone remember Fang? He was the guy with a mullet that fought in an alternate bout at ufc 5 against what looked like an Asian muAy Thai fighter - this full fight is impossible to find
Oh yes, Vitor took it to the big man and dribbled his head off the mat. Hess later wrote into black belt magazine wanting a rematch because he said Vitor was taking steroids(which he was).. not sure a rematch wpuld go any differently though
Did Hess fight besides these 2 fights? He’d be fun to see vs guys like Hackney or Patrick Smith
Princess. He fought like 2 black girls on a school bus. Then bowed out because he bruised his knuckle. I couldnt stand the guy when I first watched it. No skill. The double knee drop was hilarious tho.
I had heard that in addition to being fined, he was bounced out of the tournament. He wasn’t injured, they kicked him out.
I think it was an old HooknShoot video magazine were they was interviewing the lions dens guys, and frank and jerry showed a counter they developed for the safta double knee drop called the hot dog roll. Pretty high level stuff for the time.
UFC 5 was the first event I watched live and outside of the alternate clips from earlier in the evening, this was the first fight I saw. I didn’t catch the eye gouges in real time, just the whirlwind of grade school brawling being done by a large adult.
