I swear, an old sparring partner never got punched in the head since this fight.
After this fight he stepped out of the gym, just him and his heavy bag.
Then he went all in on mountain biking, still to this day he is sponsored etc
The fight made him never want to get hit again.
Makes sense if you knew him tho…he was a bitch lol

Idk about that and im probably a bigger fan of Shogun than Wandy.
The second fight between Wanderlei and Rampage was one of the few times i was afraid that i had just seen someone die.
Rampage fell thru the ropes and when they pulled him up blood came out of his head. It took them awhile to wake him up too. It was pretty brutal.
The shogun fight was a savage beatdown. WandyII looked like attempted murder.

Rampage had like no offense and was completely broken and wilted quickly. Wand KO’d Him but Shogun completely one sided destroyed. Rampage was yelling to his corner “my ribs broke”
I started watching the ufc before I knew there were other orgs outside of them. Pisses me off I missed his prime over it. I thought it was regional shows in NE that were feeders and then only the ufc. Bout 03-04 . What a turd I was
These are the kinds of fights that change a man forever. Neither guy was the same after this, or the rematch.
They’re amazing to watch in the moment (I know the wife and I were in slack-jawed awe) but when that final horn sounds, you suddenly have that tingle down the back of your neck that tells you you just saw the last of that particular fighter looking like an absolute world-beater.
