Didn’t realise they fought. I remember Couture mentioning that he always had self doubt and you could see it in his eyes before the fight. Also interesting that Kevin had shoes on and Couture didn’t.

I never understood fighters that don’t fight their friends.
You honor them by doing so IMO. You put food on their families table.
I fought all my greatest friends growing up, we became a brotherhood. We always had each other’s back no matter what. On our 18th birthday, we would all get jumped by 10-14 friends (not 100% force) then we got branded.

That was an interesting time in the UFC. They weren’t paying much so it was hard for them to hold on to the top heavyweights.
When Couture swept him I got up from my seat like a little kid and cheered. I was pretty young but I was like a giddy schoolgirl cheering.

He may have been the first pure wrestler to develop non wrestling MMA skills like boxing and JJ. Marco Ruas was pretty well rounded.

No… That would have been Don Frye. Legit college wrestling pedigree, professional boxer, and Judo black belt.
Besides, at that early stage I don’t think Couture could even be considered complete by the standards of the era.

No… Randy was a solid LHW, but he lost to guys he shouldn’t have and held the HW when the division was at the weakest its ever been.
