lol, indeed. no clue why i thought they were playing 5
lol no worries all Masters finals did used to be 5 sets and I sometimes still forget that too.
Itās the habit of a lifetime I think!
All should go to 5 sets. Id like to see how the women do.
Agreed 100%ā¦
They got rid of them in 2008 for reasons I donāt really agree with and there is absolutely no reason women shouldnāt play 5 set finals. Especially in the slams.
I wanna see iga out of gas.
I donāt want to sound misogynistic but I just donāt think women are physically capable of playing 5 set matches.
Just arenāt built for it.
They did used to play them at the equivalent of the end of season WTF in the final and seemed to have no issues.
Also they need to do more IMHO considering how they get paid equal to men for doing a fraction of the work.
lol watching her huge downfall on her favourite surface since her return from her drug ban has definitely been funny!
I agree. I just want them to earn the equal pay they want.
Equal pay with less work and accountability is kind of what women have been fighting for all these years.
I think think tennis wants to be the sport to rock to boat and get negative attention.
Watching barty in a 5 set match would have been glorious.
Highlights of yesterdays finalā¦
That volley from Alcaraz before he converted the set point was class but the angle of that drop shot he hit at 6.32 is unbelievable how can you effectively practice to anticipate that during the heat of a rally in a match?
He didnāt look remotely like he was going to playing a drop shot and if he did to get it to that part of the court is amazing.
No doubt who the real number 1 player in the world is at the moment.
Some stats which I have heard but havenāt doubled checked so might not be 100% accurate.
- This was Sinnerās first defeat in 9 months
- His first defeat in 26 matches
- His first straight sets defeat since 2023
- Alcaraz is the only top 10 player Sinner has failed to defeat since he won the AO in 2024 and has now lost 4 times in a row to him.
Itās amazing how good Alcarazās defensive skills were to neutralize Sinner being able to consistently generate the huge pace that he puts on his shots and feel comfortable at the baseline. The way Carlos mixes it up too is so effective in the crucial points no other player can do that to Jannick it seems in the big matches.
Think Sinner would have beaten any other player on the tour yesterday including an in form Djokovic
I canāt think of any other player that could hit that drop shot.
Let alone in a final against the number one player in the world.
Alcaraz always amazes me.
Same Iāve replayed it multiple times and if Iām Sinner looking at Alcaraz in that point Iām 100% thinking you are not hitting a drop shot from there and if you are stupid enough to there is no way you are getting it in the deuce court so close to the singles sideline with such a low bounce to win the point.
Yet he somehow did it and not for the first time eitherā¦
What a player and the youngest (I think?) ever to win the first 5 masters of the year. Something Federer and Nadal never managed.
Those drops shots from the baseline were amazing
Those 2 defensive shots he played at 6.43 of the highlight video were amazing tooā¦
Did such a great job of neutralizing Sinner in a way no-one else has managed to since he won his first slam.
that was the best point by far, carlos covered so much area to return 2 shots.
im picking him for roland garros, he looks like he did about a year ago.
Same if he plays his best Tennis itās hard to see anyone beating him especially Sinner after that performance in the Rome final.
Was watching the highlights of their semi-final match at the French last year. Donāt think it will go 5 sets again on current form if they both meet in the final uninjured.
who is your pick for Roland ?
im still thinking about who i will pick for the women, Iga is very good on clay but i just dont want to pick her.
