I think military guys were semi-aware but the situation blew up after these guys did an in-depth podcast calling out all the inaccuracies in his book. Honestly, I know nothing about the marines, military, special forces, etc., but his stories they went over in the podcast was like shit that happens in a Call of Duty match.

I find it equally weird that people want to tell others thank you for something they did 30 years ago. I don’t even acknowledge it anymore.
Here is a fact for you those of you that didn’t serve, we didn’t do it for you. Stop trying to pat yourself on the back by thanking a vet. I was poor white trash and had few options after high school. That’s the real reason I joined at least.
Ask anyone that just got out of the would do it again and it would be a landslide victory in the fuck no category. Time has a way of making all the stupid people and bullshit in the military fade from memory.
