When Guard Pulling goes wrong… (video)

This was from a few days ago at the ADCC Dallas Open in the Open Weight Division.

Ben Eddy is a 10th Planet guy and is on the receiving end of a pretty dirty slam given it’s a submission grappling match. But being a lighter guy and going for that move against that guy is putting a lot of trust in the competition.

I’ll allow it

Brutal and dirty per the rules.

That said, modern jiu jitsu requires a lot of “manicuring” of the rules just like judo.

Yeah it was dirty.

But the dude was a dumbass for trying to pull guard on a dude with that kind of size advantage.

Seemd like big guy put his forehead against little guys chin on the slam to. Extra dirty.

My first week of training, way back in 95, I was slammed pretty hard (from a friend who had been training way longer than that).

He told me something to the effect that “this was against the rules, but what you did was a bad move and now you know why” .

Rules or no rules, dirty move or not, if someone lifts me from closed guard or a triangle, I’m bailing.

Shitty move for sure, but pulling guard in the absolute division is gaming the rules imo.

Holy shit! It’s like pitting an average man against a silverback gorilla with the low impulse. Hope this guy isn’t critically injured

I’m no fan of guard pulling at all. But doing this to someone you outweigh by a good 100-150lbs is a super cunt move, legal or not.

And before it’s time to bail, the amount of people that don’t even try to hook a leg to try to stop or slow the lift is insane to me

Trash move and guy should be immediately disqualified if he broke any rules, but this is what happens when you “play” jujitsu and act like you can’t actually be hurt.

Rule #1 in tournaments, never expect your opponent to be nice to you.

On this day lessons were learned.

I had a couple guys that would try to lift me while I had them in a triangle but I just hooked the leg and kept my upper body closer to the mat.

Protect yourself at all times. Guard pulling is such an embarrassment for jiujitsu.

I thought it was funny on multiple levels. I especially enjoyed the queer and the Karen in the background crying and yelling medic!!! Jiu Jitsu is such bullshit these days.

I disagree. CJI 1 had a darn near perfect rule set

its traditional jiu jitsu, the IBJJF that needs reform. every match is a player stalling someone in their guard, going for a sweep or advantage in the last minute, then holding on. Its dreadful to watch save for a handful of players
