Why WeightLifting is making you a FATSO

Totally with you on the unsolicited advice from schlubs. I’ve had that happen in the middle of a strength program where an older dude came up and politely suggested that I would be able to increase my reps and get a better workout in if I pulled a couple plates off the bar.

Yeah I know what you mean. Luckily I’ve only had to deal with a couple of people like that, most guys I’ve ever interacted with about fitness have been cool.

Generally speaking, the guys who are motivated by internal factors seem to be cooler about it and have more humility than guys who think they are the shit because their traps are huge.

I actually talked to the manager at my son’s BJJ academy about lifting a few weeks ago (because he’s jacked), and he has me on his “program” right now. He’s a black belt in Jiu Jitsu, and a very nice guy. He says once I can do the first round comfortably, to “let coach know when you’re ready to level up”. Lol.

What’s the routine?

It’s extremely basic.

I’ve never been a weightlifter. Running, bag work, martial arts, kettle bells and lifting occasionally. So I don’t lift a lot.

He said to avoid injury (by lifting a lot), start with 5 sets of 25 push ups and 5 sets of 25 pull ups. I’m actually forgetting the pull up number now but I’m not close anyways. Right now all I can do is 75 push ups. I can only do 3 pull ups palm out, so right now I’m doing 30 pull ups with weight assistance and gradually increasing until I can reduce (and then lose) the assistance.

So right now I’m doing 75 push ups and 30 pull ups 3-4 times a week. He says once I can do the 5 sets, he will give me the next part.

Thanks for sharing but just to warn you, I did a 100 push-ups everyday for a month and it fucked up my shoulder for awhile. Just don’t ruin yourself in your quest to achieve physical greatness. Solidarity

I appreciate the advice. I’ve actually considered that, but I only do 3-4 times a week with a day off in between. I’ve also been doing some mobility exercises a few times a week for my shoulder to keep the tissue loose. Hopefully that’s enough, all I’ve dealt with is soreness. Any other advice?

What do you mean exactly by HIIT? Calisthenics or weights or do you mean cardio in intensive bursts?

no way WEIGHTS HIIT are comparable to CARDIO HIIT

Cardio HIIT really TESTS the MASCULINE ENDURANCE for SUFFERING

9pm…I can potato here after the dinner or lace-up the trainers for 30-to-60 minutes, then time for shower and be saying my PRAYERS by the BED at 11pm…what would YOU do?

Bang your smart sized wife, go to bed wake up early and do your cardio am before whatever it is that you do.

I might follow an aesthetic workout down the road, which focuses more on the upper body. Girls like v-taper look instead of the hulkSMASH or the BLOATlord body.

as mentioned in this thread I usually do some kind of Pre-Breakfast Exercise in the Early AM…some days DANCE, other days WALK…sometimes just YiQuan standing Posture…just whatever kind of movement my body tells me to do

Hey man. Can’t argue with listening to your body.

funny that an Indian is lecturing us on big bellies

AM is usually gentle stuff…just to loosen the stiffness and get the circulation going and fire-up the metabolism

most of my cardio is gentle “feel good” zone two with some moderate occasional intensity during the session, again to kind of fire-up the metabolism/circulation

I can have a really hard time sleeping at night, related to diverticulitis/digestive issues…so 9 to 10pm movement can help a bit sometimes
