258 pound Alex P hitting mitts

Based on performances in the ufc I genuinely don’t understand why anyone thinks Gane would win. He lost to Volkov, he’s simply not that good. Pereira has been a destroyer, and against far better opponents. He’s also beaten multiple better strikers than Gane is in kickboxing and guys that are much faster than Gane.

So fast and agile enough for 185 and 205 but not fast enough for heavyweight? I don’t understand the logic.

All very true

But the difference is he has never fought at heavyweight. Sure he has sparred heavyweights but he hasn’t been in there with a real heavyweight like Gane.

He looks too big and slow. I think it’s more competitive than you think and Gane could definitely get the job done. You don’t know how you’re gonna feel in a weight class until you’re there, and Gane is not an easy guy to figure that out against.

Gane could jab and jog a decision. I don’t see him engaging much with Pereira. I predict Pereira hurts Gane with leg kicks, slows his running and knocks him out. I don’t think Gane is anything special. We have plenty of film on him and he’s not overly impressive against anyone that isn’t really shitty. He was looking good against Aspinall but that was about 3 minutes so who knows.

He’s 258 lbs lol

Unless he has been fighting at 258 lbs in the cage as a LHW, and I don’t think he has, it’s a factor worth considering. He’s going in there heavier than ever before.

Maybe it’s a non-issue. Maybe it’ll have an obvious effect on his speed and cardio. We won’t know anything until the fight begins.

I disagree I think he’s one of the best strikers we’ve seen at heavyweight. But his fight IQ sucks. He stands in the pocket and hangs around with guys who are better than him at the range. If he does what he’s good at and doesn’t stray, he beats just about everyone. I’m not saying he will beat Alex, just saying it’s a difficult matchup and Alex looks pretty slow, and is having his heavyweight debut. I could definitely see a jab and low kick decision. But I am leaning towards Alex

I think Gane shit the bed against Frances but he was just wayyyyy overmatched against Jones. I don’t think his fight IQ lost that fight. Other than that though, he has not been outstruck by anyone. Aspinal was supposed to be the quicker fighter and he wasn’t. I think, if Gane is going to fuck himself, it will be by not being aggressive enough and letting Alex advance and set the pace. That could be a recipe for an L. Otherwise, I think he’s a pretty solid favorite. Hand and foot speed goes to Gane. Strength is going to go to Gane.

Man, the more I think about this, the more I can’t wait to see it unfold.

They should give Alex a new nickname: Gane-meat

It has the makings of a great fight. Can’t wait to see it.

Last thing I’ll say about Alex’s weight:

A lot of people have questions about how Alex will fight with the extra weight, but these are normal questions for any fighter that goes up in weight. We ask these questions about guys that are going up a weight class with a difference of 10lbs, let alone a massive 53lb (!) difference vs his previous weight class.

Even if he was in the cage on fight night weighing 240 as a LHW, it’s still another 18lbs on top of that. I’m not disparaging him or saying he can’t win. He may win handily. But I’m curious to see how the transition to HW will be for him, that’s all.

I’ve already said it a few times, but I hope Alex wins cause the division will be interesting. A Gane win keeps things as they are: boring. I want new blood at the top, not another Gane title shot whenever Aspinall returns. Those two will fight again at some point regardless as long as they both stick around.

Iirc, Alex is going to cut to 240-245, so he won’t be 258 in the cage

He fucked the Francis fight up, overmatched by Jones, and should have lost to Volkov because he stood and struck with him at close range.

Some kickboxing fans must know how Alex fared facing “nimble” touch & move kickboxcers. In MMA, a valid comparions might be Adesanya.

BOTH guys have faced similar style fighters IMO. We just don’t know how it will go until we see it.
