And don’t type something saying it was the fear of the takedown lol
I feel like I’m having to explain what MMA is to you lol. You are stuck on boxing and this ain’t boxing.
Ankalaev would never even beat the guys in kickboxing that would have been required to reach a fight with Periera. The only reason they are fighting in MMA is because Alex is so good at kickboxing that he has destroyed most MMA strikers.
Nigga I’ve been watching MMA since 1996 lol. Lol at comparing Khabib’s striking to Ank’s. Khabib dropped Conor because he wasn’t expecting that from Khabib. He’s not known to have good striking.
Everyone knows Ank can strike. So him rocking Alex wasn’t some surprise lol. Plus it had nothing to do with fear of a take down. He was getting out struck all night
Let’s think of another fight where Alex struggled. Jan. Was there the threat of a takedown in that fight? There sure was, and he performed sort of similarly, albeit a little better, and barely won.
The only other fighter he struggled against was Adesanya. Who is a super technical former elite kickboxer.
He was too worried about takedowns
Read this again.
How many great kickboxers did Alex beat?
Ank couldn’t beat Dustin Jacoby, Adseyana, Simon Marcus?
Show me the level of fighters he beat that are the likes of.
Hari
Verhoeven
Aerts
Buakaw
Petrosyan
Hoost
Dekkers
Schilt
Overeem
Hug
Saki
Etc etc
Even the plumber has a bad day in the field every so often.
We are at the point now, where everything garners an instant overreaction. Justin was washed after the Max fight. Alex sucks at MMA. The reversal of opinion is staggering. Monday morning quarterback to the max.
I could hold you down and take a nap
Or beat you with my wall strikes
Opinion on who won that fight was split 50/50 from what I’ve seen. Ank got all his takedowns shut down and the fight was decided by a handful of strikes. I think it’s ridiculous to act like it was in the cards for Ank to win. A different set of judges, and Alex could have left with belt.
MMA fans

Good question. Why didn’t Alex fight retired kickboxers who were in different weight classes and in a completely different era of the sport? You’re all over the place here and no, I don’t think he beats any of those guys, including Simon Marcus.
Let’s just be honest here. Me and you both know that striking in MMA is not the same as striking in kickboxing. You’re a fight fan and you know this difference exists, but you’re acting like you don’t, because it wouldn’t benefit your argument. We’ve seen it time and time again where a kickboxer comes into MMA and fights a good striker who has a complete game, with a grappling/wrestling threat. The MMA guy makes it really competitive or beats said kickboxer, blah blah blah…
The truth is that Ankalaev is a really good MMA striker. But out of all his UFC fights, the only ones notable for me were Johnny Walker and Cutelaba, where he actually finished them definitively. Aside from that he struggled with a 38 year old Santos (got dropped twice IIRC), had a very competitive stand up fight with Rakic, and the other quality wins he has, are all fights where the striking was very close, but his takedowns and control got him the win. He struggled with Jan and I thought he lost that fight, and instead of fighting more guys, he sat out before he eventually fought Rakic.
Alex has been fighting all the best guys and knocking most of them out. Aside from the first Adesanya fight, Alex hasn’t been landing “lucky” knockout shots after being dominated or hurt (which opposes your view of Alex’s success only being his “power”).
Sure, Ankalaev won a fight in which I was not impressed by either guy. Now he’s the champion. I’m glad you think his wrestling threat or even the threat of getting a hold of Alex has nothing to do with his win, you can continue to think what you want, but I fully disagree, and my view is supported by the fundamental basis of MMA rules, and has historically been consistent with what we saw lastnight.
High level striking is puzzle solving in real time
Ank had the answers
Lol.
Are you saying those things as your opinion, or as examples of what other people are saying?
You’re not wrong, it happens after every event. I think the discussion being had about Alex vs. Ankalaev is a valuable one, because I do think stuffed takedowns should count for offense, or at least something, because the person defending is determining where the fight takes place.
If a fight starts on the ground instead of on the feet, and the guy on bottom is trying but failing to escape, the guy on top is rewarded with “control time”.
And yet your Tank comment above makes it seem like you have learned absolutely nothing
it was like writen by Grok based on some recency bias headliners and X conversations
