All Aspects of TENNIS Discussion

Not gonna lie, I had COMPLETELY forgotten about Wilander. Another guy that never won Wimbledon. He would have had a Grand Slam in 88 or 89 as he won the other three.

Interesting how Wilander won one major in 82, one in 83, one in 84, and one in 85, and then exploded for three in 88.

I’m watching the Sampras/Edberg 1992 U.S. Open match right now.

Actually very entertaining to watch.

I tried to modernize my game and will tend to camp out of the baseline.

But this match has me wanting to spend the next couple weeks just working on volleys.

That’s awesome. It’s always good, in any sport, if you are able to switch up your strategy and give your opponent different looks, and see where they are vulnerable. Plus, it can be fun to try different strategies and different shots.

Both awesome.

Becker is among my favorites.

Can’t really think of a guy who would dive and sacrifice his body to make shots more often.

He’s fun to watch. Massive serves and diving all over the place.

What kind of odds are you guys giving Tiafoe against Sinner today? Who would you like to see win?

I want Sinner to be able to challenge Alcaraz in the majors so I’m rooting for him to win today, show some good form, and gain some confidence heading into the US Open.

I don’t have anything against Alcaraz, but I want Sinner to stay with him and be able to beat him. I feel like Alcaraz has had the upper hand lately.

I’m going to root for Tiafoe.

But I don’t think his odds are very good.

Nothing against Sinner.

Just that Tiafoe is an American and it would be nice to finally see him win something.

I live one county over from where he’s from. He gave $50,000 to a local tennis center.

Tiafoe seems like a good dude. And I think it would mean a lot for him to win the Cincinnati Open.

I have Sinner as my overall favorite to win the U.S. Open either way.

Even though I think Alcaraz is a better overall player.

Sinner’s game translates best to the hard courts and the U.S. Open should be where he has an advantage.

But he has Alcaraz, Djokovic, Medvedev and Zverev standing in the shadows, so it’s never an easy task.

I was thinking something similar. It would be nice for Sinner to win today and to win this tournament but it’s a bigger win for Tiafoe.

I’m glad you think so and I hope you’re right.

I think Federer is most likely the most talented, and complete player ever to have played. Obviously the are some surface specialists such as Nadal on clay and Sampras on grass. Would love to have seen a peak Sampras vs peak Federer on centre court berfore they slowed the courts to placate all the baseline wankers.

Didn’t know those guys played tennis.

Oh yeah, and Jordan liked to play for money

@Canooke Another two of my favourites from childhood. When everyone served and volleyed at Wimbledon. Brilliant stuff. Those finals were classic.

It’s so cool that they faced each other in the Wimbledon finals three years in a row, and that they split them 2-1 (as evenly as you can split that).

Sinner won the first set tiebreak 7-4 and then broke early in the second set to go up 2-0. That’s a big swing.

Sinner won the second set 6-2 and the Cincinatti Open along with it.

A nice match and tournament win, in and of itself, and also great for Sinner with the US Open approaching.

This came up on my YouTube feed today. Good old days of serve and volley and net play. Becker was the man at diving volleys. We always tried to copy him at school.
