What exactly is Conor’s legacy?

Yesterday on the fight thread I called Conor a hurricane. He was massive, but he came and went. Very fast.

No long lasting title reign
No regaining of the title after losing it
Other than Nate Diaz, no avenging of any losses (and even that one was iffy)

He went 7-0 at FW. He enjoyed beating guys smaller than him. He never gave Aldo a rematch or fought Frank Edgar which at the time we all thought he was ducking both of those

1-3 record at LW
2-2 record at WW (when including the freak injury loss to max)

His overall UFC record is now 10-5

He lost in the biggest fight in UFC history to Khabib. Lost his trilogy to arch nemesis Dustin. He lost the rematch to Max, who is considered the better fighter all time at FW

What is this man’s legacy? Assuming he never fights again

Conor McGregor's Sad Loss

The casuals will say how he elevated the sport and they’ll boost up his double champ status. They’ll ignore everything else

But a 10-5 ufc record is pretty… not great. I don’t believe he’s a top 15 fighter in mma history. Maybe not even top 20 but it’d be close

He beat a bunch of rape charges and hit that old man in the pub who said his whiskey sucked.

edit: He also punched Burnie the Miami Heat mascot.

double edit: And sent that chick a dick pic that she reposted

It’s still being written.

Conor’s legacy was that in his prime he gave us a wild fucking ride.

Before him champions were so careful and calculated with their legacies. The idea was to minimise risk in title reigns.

Conor just didn’t give a fuck about that so we got a lot of all time moments of brilliance - where sometimes he was the hammer and sometimes he was the nail.

His legacy is swing for the fence, don’t be conservative. The sport is better for it.

Prime Mike Tyson level of excitement. Was must watch tv. and just like tyson, drugs, fame, and women derailed his freight train to goat status.

Cocaine

Always was and always will be the most overrated fighter in history.

Has he ever had even one title defense?

Conor’s back to back wins over Aldo and Alvarez are two of the best of all time.

Nope. He won the FW belt but vacated it immediately. Won the LW belt and vacated it to go lose to Floyd Mayweather in boxing

Basically his run had people who don’t give a single fuck about UFC or any combat sport suddenly talking about Conor, waiting for fights, the whole thing turning into a mainstream circus

“Back to back”

Between those fights he lost to Nate Diaz via round 2 RNC and then had a 5 round war with him in which he arguably lost again

So it sounds like his legacy is only about his stardom and impact. But nothing about his actually body of work lol

those fights with diaz were glorified exhibitions. the two fights he won against aldo and alvarez were title fights

Stay off the UG. Crawl back to your hole on the OG where you get abused and lose SN bets every other week
