It’s a combination of his invincibility in the cage and his skins genetic resiliency to damage. As well as his wide cranium which is built to withstand damage.
I think he wanted to show he’s not a boring lay n pray fighter after the DDP fight.
So when round 1 was just him out wrestling Strickland but accomplishing nothing.
But Strickland is the last guy you want to just stand and trade with for 4 rounds.
Still it was very close, he nearly out pointed the super safe and boring point fighter, despite being a wrestler.
I do think @PatrickBateman Jack made a good point, if Khamzat were coached by Khabib or his dad he would have fought with a better strategy and kept the belt.
i guess my point is at this highest of levels (championship level) that there is such a stark disparity between a champion who seems like a total amateur at stopping takedown, and another champion who is expert level at the same. Strange to me that there is such a disparity between champions of all people
I rewatched it and it was a clear Strictland W. Khamzat did absolutely nothing with any of his takedowns. No damage landed whatsoever. On the other hand Sean’s top control on khamzat was more dominant. Also Sean beat him in the stand up. People only think otherwise because Sean’s nose a was so busted up creating the illusion he was losing
Let Sean get back up. Saw a great video breaking down how Sean kept Kamzat from getting his hooks in or getting his back and the two times he did how Sean was able to minimize Khamzat’s ability to do much and kept getting back to posting especially with his side against the cage.
if its judges by the actual rules judges are supposed to use, it was a 10-8 round 1. r5 was close but i figured theyd give it to chim since he won the grappling portion
that said, if sean did it all with a bad shoulder, i am ok with him gettin the unofficial bonus point
Round 1 was in no way a 10-8 round. Not even close. He never really had dominant position, never had him in danger from strikes, never had him close to a potential submission.
r. Judges shall ALWAYS give a score of 10 – 8
when the judge has established that one fighter has dominated the action of the round
. Judges must CONSIDER giving the score of 10 – 8 when a fighter shows dominance in the round even though no impactful scoring against the opponent was achieved. MMA is an offensive based sport. No scoring is given for defensive maneuvers
If a fighter has little to no offensive output during a
5 minute round, it should be normal for the judge to consider awarding the losing fighter 8 points
When Sean was in top position you can see how scrawny khamzat is. Arms skinny compared to Strictland. He will NOT be able to hang in the 205lb division. He don’t have the frame. He should be at 170lb but he has no discipline with his diet. Sean’s only weakness is his nose that breaks so easily.
Those three judges are the best that have even done this for MMA, as a matter of fact, they are the best judges in the whole world. And they gave it to Sean.
Khamzat losing his first fight and handling it like a gentleman will pay dividends for him moving forward if he can refrain from going full retard on social media.
If Bo wins the White House fight let’s just throw him to Khamzat and see what happens
